performances at Dresden's Opera House
I plan to be in Dresden for 3 nights in June. I'd like to go to the chamber music evening--where is the best place to sit? Orchestra? First ring? There will also be a junge szene Michael Tucker program while I am there, and I'd appreciate advice about how enjoyable that would be. (I will sadly miss a William Forsythe program.)
Thanks for any suggestions. |
For chamber music they sell exclusively orchestra seats - the balconies are closed as long as not all the tickets for orchestra seats are sold (which hardly every happens.)
Are you aware that the Junge Szene Michael Tucker ballet program will be on the Semper 2 stage, which is the former rehearsal stage in the modern (1980s) building in the back? Not in the beautiful main auditorium! I guess it will be modern, somewhat "experimental" ballet. Just for aficionados, I am afraid ;-) On the other hand, if you like ballet, then go. Could be a pleasant surprise. |
Thank you, Ingo, for your helpful reply. Yes, I saw the different venue for the ballet. I do love ballet, so I think I will go. I have another question: there are no tour tickets available during my time in Dresden. Does that mean they are sold out, or could there be tickets available at the opera house? I would prefer an English tour.

No, tour tickets do not sell out that early. Actually, I am pretty sure you can just walk up and join a guided tour. Best would be to go there early in the day and book for later.
Seriously, I am not sure the tour is worth the 9 Euro (plus 3 Euro photography fee). You won't see much more than when attending a performance. And there are plenty of books and brochures in English available to read about the opera house. |
Thanks again, Ingo. Next I'll have questions about where to stay.

No problem. Keep them coming :-)
