People are very liberated in Amsterdam, but spare a thought for the doggies

In todays news...

DOG OWNERS in Amsterdam are angry because the city has legalised public sex in one of its most famous parks. Councillors agreed that heterosexual and gay couples could have sex in the Vondelpark, which has 10 million visitors a year. But they also promised to clamp down on dog owners who let their pets walk in the park without a lead.

Padraig Mar 14th, 2008 05:51 AM

C'mon Lawchick! There is joined-up thinking in this. Can you imagine how vexing it would be to be hard at it in the bushes (I presume you are too much of a lady to be hard at it on the lawn) and have somebody's unfettered mutt come up with its cold wet nose?

traveller1959 Mar 14th, 2008 05:54 AM

Aren't dogs allowed to have free sex in the park?

What about having sex with dog?

Must I wear a leash when I am having sex in the park?

Lawchick Mar 14th, 2008 05:58 AM

I just hope it never happens in Brussels because there's dog poop everywhere in the parks.

Obviously you must wear a leash if its Doggie-style .

BTilke Mar 14th, 2008 06:01 AM

The Parc Tenbosch in Brussels requires all dogs to be kept on leads. And because the park is one of the few that is regularly patrolled, dog poop isn't a big problem there. Plus, the combo of rules and patrols to enforce them means pit bulls and their owners are seldom in the park.

On the good news for dogs front, doggie cops in Dusseldorf now have their own footwear to protect their paws from shards of glass in the old town (see photo):

traveller having sex with a dog is about to be illegal in the Netherlands - not because of animal cruelty, but as an offence against good morals.

I feel for the dog owners of Amsterdam. There are very few places that dogs are allowed to run free in Amsterdam, and they are getting fewer all the time. Dogs who can run free will tend to head for cover to do their business, dogs on leads must do it wherever they can. Dogowners pay a huge amount in local dog taxes and their rights are being reduced all the time whilst the taxes just keep going up. How about a sex in the open air tax?

As for allowing public sex in the Vondelpark, it is too crazy for words. They have had to make it for both heteros and gays, but really it is aimed at the gay community who have been campaigning for this for a long time.
It is getting to the stage where you can not walk anywhere in parks or woods without disturbing copulating men. Sorry but I am offended by this - far more than by a bit of dog poo.

Cholmondley_Warner Mar 14th, 2008 06:25 AM

Typical Dutch innit? Allow dogging but not doggies.

Dukey Mar 14th, 2008 06:58 AM

One wonders why those Dutch ships even bothered to sail over and defeat the Armada with remarks like that one.

Travelnut Mar 14th, 2008 07:11 AM

One of the pleasures of relaxing in Vondelpark is watching the dogs cavort and play.

PalenQ Mar 14th, 2008 07:17 AM

Maybe they can move the Redlight District there now that the Mayor is bent on closing the present one

Lawchick Mar 14th, 2008 07:18 AM

Now the dogs can relax and watch the people cavort and play.

PalenQ Mar 14th, 2008 12:03 PM

Guess that puts laying in the park in a whole different context

Magellan_5 Mar 14th, 2008 12:11 PM

I guess they'll have to rename it Fondlepark now :D

WillTravel Mar 14th, 2008 12:13 PM

With the Dutch pronunciation, that's what it sounds like (v like f).

kleeblatt Mar 14th, 2008 12:14 PM

Hi Magellan! That's just what I was thinking!

I hope they've set up condom dispensers next to the robidogs.

Magellan_5 Mar 14th, 2008 12:21 PM

Yeah, I was just there two weeks ago - my hotel was two blocks from the park. While I didn't see dispensers for condoms, I did notice several packages of travel-size handi-wipes scattered throughout the park...so at least the new activities will be off to a nice, clean start. LOL.

PalenQ Mar 14th, 2008 12:26 PM

there used to be a few cows in the park - are they at risk - should they pack condoms?

kleeblatt Mar 14th, 2008 12:30 PM

Seems there are still some rules:

1. They must take their garbage with them afterwards
2. They ould never have intercourse near the playground.
3. Sex must be limited to the evening hours and night.

2. They SHould

Carta_Pisana Mar 14th, 2008 12:43 PM

gives new meaning to the yoga position - lazy dog

PalenQ Mar 14th, 2008 12:46 PM

I wonder if oral sex is OK near the playground? that, to Bill Clinton of course was not sex "I did not have sex with that..."

loves2sing Mar 14th, 2008 12:50 PM

I'm confused, do these people having public sex not have homes? Or do they just prefer public sex?

Proenza_Preschooler Mar 14th, 2008 01:00 PM

I am gay and I a horrified at the prospect of seeing two leather queens going at it in the bushes. HOW GROSS! Please, throw rocks at them.

Go get a room at the Ritz-Carlton like everyone else, Mary.

Superficially Thin

traveller1959 Mar 14th, 2008 04:43 PM

>>> 1. They must take their garbage with them afterwards <<<

Do they have a recycling system for latex products?

russwuf Mar 14th, 2008 11:09 PM

haha traveler...that would give a whole new meaning to the "doggie" bag scenario eh? LMAO

traveller1959 Mar 15th, 2008 03:45 AM

Isn't a doggie bag something to take leftovers home in order to swallow it later?

Cholmondley_Warner Mar 15th, 2008 03:47 AM

One wonders why those Dutch ships even bothered to sail over and defeat the Armada with remarks like that one.>>>>>>

Another insight into the American education system.

Another prejudice confirmed.

PalenQ Mar 15th, 2008 07:13 AM

<Another prejudice confirmed>

are you talking about AAFlyer's charges yesterday accusing some Brits were severe anticeptism

because this remark does seem to confirm that

PalenQ Mar 15th, 2008 08:31 AM

What's the reason for this new policy?

Why do gays want to have sex in an often soggy park?

Is it a gay gathering place and quick casual sex is the off shoot? (Does Sen Craig know about this?)

just curious why frolic in the park?

Cowboy1968 Mar 15th, 2008 08:38 AM

Why do gays want to have sex in an often soggy park?
Because doing it in the grachten gets you even wetter.

Is it a gay gathering place and quick casual sex is the off shoot? (Does Sen Craig know about this?)
Yes, like almost any other public park on the continent. Continental politicians rarely participate, though, since amount of media coverage and public interest is kind of disappointing.

just curious why frolic in the park?
It's mostly thought as a service to visitors from overseas, who often complain that Amsterdam hotel rooms are way too small. (Don't all these bathroom size questions now make sense?)
