Pentecost in Athens
 

Will museums be closed in Athens over Pentecost weekend? Is there less public transportation during this period?

When we speak of Pentecost weekend in Greece, we speak about the Monday the 4th of June 2012.
The weekend of 2 & 3/6 is like any other weekend...
As for the Pentecost- Monday, this is affecting only the public sector, not the private one.
Shops, restaurants etc will be opened as usual, same goes also for archeological sites and museums...
Public transportation will be like every other normal working day.

Yes, it's pretty much like any other weekend with one exception. Pentecost weekend is a popular getaway for Greeks, similar to the three-day weekends of Memorial Day and Labor Day in the US. Holy Spirit Monday (Αγιου Πνευματος) occurs 50 days after Greek Easter, a time of year perfect for a long weekend on the islands or at a seaside resort. Ferries going out to the islands are busy on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, and busy coming back to the mainland on Monday, when prebooking is advised. :-)
