Pensions in Rome advice

Any advice on pensions (names) vs. hotels in heart of Rome? 3 senior ladies staying one night prior to Medeterranean cruise. 2 of us want pensione but one wants hotel. The rooms look pretty much the same on Internet but big difference in price. Any advice appreciated.

Why not post the name of the pension and the name of the hotel? It's hard to advise in a vacuum.

I'd be resentful if forced to pay more than I wanted to, so it's also possible you could make separate choices.

We stayed at Hotel Parlamento, billed as a "pensione" but not much different than a hotel from what I saw. We liked it a lot.

Tell us your budget, room type, when you're going, etc. You'll get lots of suggestions.

We are going May 9th 2008. We want something clean in a decent area. We are only there one night before a cruise. (3 of us). Want to save $ to spend on the cruise. Someone suggested Best Western Canada, and we're looking on the net for B&B's or a nice hotel for around $60 each for 1 night. Will we have any luck? It doesn't have to be a "posh place" just decent in a decent area in case we want to take a walk after dinner.

That Best Western Canada is not in a convenient location. It's northeast of the train station, a long way from most of what you will want to see. For a nice area to walk around, look in the Piazza Navona area, or Campo de' Fiori or Pantheon. Right in the center, lots of nice restaurants, a much better area.

Did you look at Hotel Parlamento? I had a quote from them for 170eu, triple room in October. That's a little higher than you wanted ($79 per person). It's a nice hotel, family staffed. Breakfast is included. And you can't beat the location for the price. It's right on the corner of Via del Corso at the Parliament building.

I haven't stayed at Pensione Panda, but even their triple is 140eu...$65 per person. It's in the Spanish Steps area.

To get lower than that, I suspect you'll need to look in the Termini area. Take a look at Hotel Italia, too. Lastly, have you researched convent stays? Search here and you'll find lots of info on them.
