Pensione Accademia

We're planning a trip for next year to Rome and Venice. Would like to book into the Pensione Accademia in Venice. Can anyone advise on a room number to book? We're looking for a room with a good view, and preferably a private terrace. Also, does anyone know what room number Katherine Hepburn's room in "Summertime" was? (The interiors were filmed at this hotel).
Thanks.
Kathy

Kathy,
I would be surprised to learn that the interior of that character's room was actually filmed there. Perhaps the public rooms were actually used in the film, but an actual bedroom would have to be pretty large to accommodate filming. Perhaps I am wrong in this case.
In addition to the filming on location, some of the filming was done back at the studio. The actress herself didn't stay there of course--she had more luxurious digs. In addition to the filming on location, some of the filming was done back at the studio.
Karen Brown's guidebook on charming places to stay may be able to help you with more details on the individual rooms.
I love that movie myself--for an interesting website, look at
www.neponset.com/brazzi/summer.htm
hi vf
When I went to Venice I was solo myself, looked everywhere for Rossano's
grandson to no avail. Loved Venice anyway.
If you want to take a look at my sightseeing notes, email me.

Elaine: Thanks for the information. I've heard from others as well that it really wasn't filmed there. Still, I loved the movie, and am sure I'll love Venice as well. I'll take my chances with the Pensione Accademia anyway! Kathy

We will be staying at Pensione Accademia. For the October stay, I booked in April. All the standard rooms (330,000L) were fully booked then. We were told only one deluxe room was available (400,000L).

400,000L is a little out of our range, but I wanted to stay there anyway. I've loved Summer time ever since I saw it 20 years ago when I was in college and saw it again last month.

So, if anyone wants to stay at this place, book early!
