Agree that AC could be useful in August. We have been in May when it was very hot. You just never know.

If all is equal , that with A/C is the better choice even now very high temperatures for some days .
I understand the pertschy has or will be soon doing some renovations including the repair of their small elevator- certainly not the best for visitors if staying during this period.

We stayed at the Pension Suzanne and were very happy with it. I liked the location - it is 1/2 block off the main walking area and 1/2 block from the opera house. It would be close for the teenagers to walk on their own - there would be shopping and there is usually music or something going on in the area. Places for ice cream or bakery, snacks etc.

thanks for the input.will choose the NH(aircon) cos also it is easier to get to and from westbanhof as we are making a trip inbetween to salzburg.

Nothing wrong with staying on Mariahilferstrasse - easy access to the metro, and there are lots of shops and cafes. Look for the one with open-face sandwiches - yummy!

Vienna now in a heat wave - most would like to have airconditioning now - no one knows the duration but currently no end seen.
