PENELOPE CASAS dies

Responsible for instilling a love for Spanish food, and for Spain, in legions of English-speaking home cooks and travelers. She met her husband, Luis Casas, during Vassar's Junior Year Abroad program in Madrid. (He was the son of her host mother)

Her books are classics.

Such sad news, she was so young. I am not much of a cook, though I have a couple of her books, but what I thought was really exceptional was her guidebook to Spain. Discovering Spain, I believe it is called. I had always hoped she would publish an updated edition, but that was not to be. May she rest in peace.

I relied heavily on her wonderful book "Discovering Spain" when planning our trip to Northern Spain. So sorry to learn of her illness and death.

I love her cooking books. The "Discovering Spain" guide is a must in the travel library on any serious Spain lover.
