pbase vs. webshots.com

Thanks to several posters, namely TRSW and MelissaH, and possibly SeaUrchin. Because of posts here, I have been able to view pictures on pbase. I find it very easy to manuever and I like the way the pictures are displayed.

DH is leaning toward webshots.com (the price isn't even a consideration). He has his own reasons.

I can't get into webshots to check it out, except for the sample that they offer.

Before we decide, does anyone here use webshots.com and would they be willing to let me view their pictures so that I can judge the ease and clarity of the site for myself.

Any pros or cons on either site?

Thanks in advance.

Nina

We have our photos on Webshots and you're welcome to take a look:

Frankly, I like the presentation of pbase better, and there's been something of a revolt on Webshots since they changed the format and presentation a month or two ago. I've always found it easy enough to use, but I'm not sure what I'd choose to do if I was starting over (which I just don't have the time to do right now).

Thanks ms go, I was all set to say 'great pictures', but alas, I kept get 'error page' when I tried to view them. I have a Web TV and this often happens to me. When DH gets home, we'll check it out on his laptop.

DH works for their parent company although he has absolutely nothing to do with webshots, so that is why he is leaning towards them, sight unseen. He is also a cheapskate :-)) and that has a lot to do with it. I on the other hand, take my credit card frequent flyer miles wherever I can find them.

Thanks,

Nina

Hi

Just to offer another alternative my daughter put me onto a free site called Photobucket. I've never used this sort of program so I was a bit unsure about it at first. But after using it I can't believe how easy it is - it's so user friendly! If you're interested you can view my Turkey and Paros photos to get an idea - http://s62.photobucket.com/albums/h100/worldinabag/

worldinabag, thanks so much. The site was easy to manuever. I am one of those people who enjoys looking at vacation pictures, if they are not just pictures of the travelers standing in front of various sights, and they are the main part of the picture. I sometimes think people do that just to prove that they were really there :-))

Your pictures are lovely, especially the one of you eating spaghetti! I liked the church and the view from your bedroom window, showing the inside and outside shutters. You have a good eye and the pictures are clear and uncluttered.

I don't do any computer 'stuff', DH handles it all - that is actually my choice, not his. He was on Shutterbug and now Kodak, but neither site seemed that great to me. Now he has three choices .... no wonder that man loves me so much :-))

I do basically all of our trip planning and research, so he has it pretty easy - travel-wise.

DH just corrected me - Shutterfly. We are on Kodak now.

I think pbase is the best one out there. I like the way the photos are presented - no commericalism, no trying to get you to purchase prints, etc. So the photos just look nicer. It's easy to use to view photos and it's easy to post photos to. While not free, it's so little as to not really be an issue to me (and I'm a world class tightwad). I researched them all a couple of years ago and pbase was by far the best one. My photos are at pbase.com/annforcier

I too love the pbase format and would start over with them if I could set aside about 20 hours to transfer.

Just to make the choice a little harder - check out flickr. They offer free and pay accounts and have a nice clean interface. Here are some of my Italy pictures:

Ann, I did go back and look at some of your galleries--especially Portugal. I do love your shots at Marvao and Obidos.

SeaUrchin Nov 2nd, 2006 09:26 AM

Hi Nina, I do like pbase. There is also the convenience of putting a gallery in private mode so only certain people can view it.

I use pbase for out of state and country family and friends who want to keep up on my life, so I keep them all open for the most part. But that also means others have to put up with my mug in a lot of the shots!!

Have fun deciding!

Thanks, I'll check them all out.

SeaUrchin - you have a cute mug - a good advertisement for Chanel :-)) I couldn't remember if you were on pbase too.
