you are situated with alot of wonderful villages around you.Cavaillon, famous for it's mellons that you must try with Beaume de Venise wine poured over.
Oppede, Goult, Bonnieux, La Coste(with the marquis de Sade's castle ruins), Menerbes(where Peter Mayle lived) and so many others,

Update. the chef at LaChassagnette is now at the L'Atelier in Arles.
Le Petire Maison in Cucuron is no more.(it made Bistro du Paradou prices seem like cafeteria prices)
"La Place" in Maussane we like very much,
Le Jarden du Quai in Isle-sur-la-sorge, the chef was previously at la Mirande in Avignon.
Chez Bru and petire Bru still going strong.

Just to say that eating outside is one of the great pleasures in Provence. I like Petit Bru for dinner as much for its atmospherics as for the food. The menu there is somewhat limited but fine. Sous les Micocouliers is open for lunch so it's kind of a natural to go there at that time of day. I even pulled in there last summer after a long bike ride and they were very accomodating despite my sweaty state! I think that I had a cold lobster salad meal that was quite good.

I'm another person who is not a fan of Bistro du Paradou. Seems like the main course is either roast leg of lamb (with no sauce) cooked medium well, or chicken. This is a place I would love to like, but the cooking is very un-imaginative, IMO

There used to be a good Italian style bistro in Maussane called Le Fornil although when we visited last year, it was closed. Does anyone local to Maussane know if it is likely to re-open?

Fournil is no more but Le Fournil in Bonnieux is very good and dining by the fontaine a pleasure. Some of the cafés by the fontaine in Maussane are very good for the price. I had an excellent toro steak. In Nice, you can have socca for only a few dollars. Delicious and filling. The small cafés in a village where the locals eat are often a surprise how good they are.

Le Petit Bru in Eygalieres is now an Italian restaurant, serious refurbishment taking place when I walked past in january.

Thanks Wilco, I suspect it's because they love to ski and have opened a restaurant in ski country. But I'll check it out when there.

Walked the dogs near Eygalieres today. The Petit Bru is no more. It is now called L'Aubergine and is indeed Italian, ie pizzas and pasta. Menu seemed a little pricey. Chez Bru will open on 1st May. The chef and staff have wintered in Courcheval 1850 at a restaurant called Le Cheval Blanc I believe.

I am bummed! I loved Le Petit Bru; I know the woman who helped them with their design with the candles in the wall. Perhaps they will still serve food on the terrace. The tables were close together and I often ended up chatting with other people nearby. I suppose the only silver lining is that their credit card machine never worked with my card, so perhaps the new restauranters will have a new machine!
