thanks for posting!

You need to set up a PayPal account in order to use PayPal.

Christina Jul 15th, 2014 09:56 AM

true, I'm not a big Paypal fan unless there is no alternative. They try to force you to give them your bank account information, which I won't do, but you can use a credit card on Paypal several times before they force you to give them your bank acct info.

I've had no problem using my American CC on Renfe last year, however. Didn't know that was an issue, as long as you notify your card issuer.

Robert's and Christia`s information is not correct.

If you don't have a PayPal account, you have to submit a credit card to PayPal for payment. If the card isn't one with 'no foreign transaction fees', you will be charged a fee for the foreign transaction, plus the CC fee. If you have a PayPal account, then the funds are taken directly from the bank account listed with PayPal without incurring a CC or transaction fee.

ribeirasacra Jul 16th, 2014 07:56 AM

So you have confirmed what I said no need for a Paypal account. Thank you.

ribeirasacra Jul 16th, 2014 08:01 AM

PS does not making a payment on REFE with a CC also entail a fee? Especially when you a have a CC with <b>'no foreign transaction fees'</b>.
I ask this because I have CCs for which I do not have such a restriction.

danon Jul 16th, 2014 08:49 AM

without informing
anyone or being charged extra fees we have never had a problem using a CC issued by a Canadian bank.
Don't understand the problem between RENFE and the American basks.

ribeirasacra Jul 16th, 2014 12:53 PM

Do Canadian banks use chip and PIN?
Yes off topic, but helps me to understand the problems some have with RENFE.

Christina Jul 16th, 2014 01:13 PM

Don't understand the problem between RENFE and the American basks.>>

I don't either, as I said, I didn't have any problem using mine directly on the RENFE website (a Capital One Mastercard). It has no foreign transaction fee. To be honest, I don't recall if RENFE charges you a fee or not, that would be unusual, but if they did, I wouldn't have had any choice.

Not sure what ribeirasacra means about how my info is not correct. All I know is Paypal keeps harrassing me to give them my bank account information even though all I do is buy things on their website, I don't sell things. They told me I only had a limited number of times to buy something on Paypal before I had to give them a bank acct even though I'm using a CC. That website riberasacara posted is very confusing to me, something about how you can use Paypal but not have a Paypal account, maybe that's new, I don't know. I just don't like them and never use them unless I have no other option.

danon Jul 16th, 2014 02:03 PM

Yes, my CC cards have both.
When I input the CC number a window from my bank opens asking for the security password .
Once I provide it, the transaction goes through.

ribeirasacra Jul 16th, 2014 11:05 PM

Christian why are you confused for? The article is quite old (have look at the date) I have never had Paypal harass me. Maybe you opened an account things like that happen if you fill in the wrong box incorrectly.
If you do not understand the problems some posters have trying to purchase RENFE train tickets then please do a search on this subject you will get a number of hits.
Danon thanks you for your information.
