Paying for Hotels

We will be staying in Venice for four (4) nights. One of the discount hotel sites that we use offer two option of how to pay 1. pay now, where the price is slightly higher or 2. Pay the hotel at time of checkout and at the hotels rate at that time. So my question is do you think it's better to pay now or chance paying upon arrival and hope that the price doesn't soar.

Any experiences

I prefer certainty - and Venice hotels can be expensive! Better to pay now and lock in the price.

Thanks mjsullivan17 makes sense.

Hey pj,

On the other hand, the Euro Zone isn't in such good shape these days. What if the Euro drops?

I'd look into the cancellation policy and have that be one of the determining factors.

Most hotels don't allow you to cancel if you prepay to get a special rate, that's what the rate is for -- discount for prepayment.

I think it depends how sure your plans are and how big the discount. I don't usually do that, but have if it was a good savings and I knew I wanted to stay there.

I would just prepay now so you aren't worrying your whole trip what the bill will be when you check out. If you are worried about +/- $100 stay at a cheaper hotel.
