Pay parking tickets or not?

While on holiday last month, I got a parking ticket in Siena. Should I pay it?

TripleSecDelay Nov 4th, 2004 10:28 PM

Stand in front of a mirror and repeat the question. There, you will receive the answer.

TopMan Nov 4th, 2004 10:34 PM

"Mirror, mirror on the wall...who is the cheapest one of all..."?

Please don't forget, we've become a totally moral country now, so you have a LOT to live up to.

Why not avoid getting one in the first place? Heave your bottom out of the driver's seat and WALK.

TopMan Nov 5th, 2004 12:50 AM

Raspberry7: Interesting idea...and I certainly HOPE that Vegassurfer wouldn't dream of driving a car that was MADE IN FRANCE!!!!!

SiobhanP Nov 5th, 2004 02:24 AM

It depends on if they contact the car hire company...then they can track you. Otherwise I would not bother.

We received a parking ticket in Ireland a couple of years ago. We tried to pay it, but "City Hall" was closed. Didn't know what to do, but the charge showed up on our credit card bill a couple of months later, as we assumed it would.

I can't really understand why this question was even asked.

I get accused of being a troll for a religious jewlery on plane question, but should I pay a ticket question isn't trollish?

PatrickLondon Nov 5th, 2004 04:35 AM

Trollish - is that something they speak in or near Molvania?

>I got a parking ticket in Siena. Should I pay it?<

Not if you are a proper retrosexual.

siena_us Nov 5th, 2004 06:43 AM

You can hang on to it for a while but one way or another you will have to pay for it as the rental car company will get the ticket. If you are past the allowable 20 days you will have fees added on. Let me know if I can be of help.

Of course you should pay it. Why are you even asking?

suze Nov 5th, 2004 09:24 AM

Of course you should pay it! You were a visitor and using the infrastructure of that town. It's like people who sneak on the vaporetto in Venice because often no one checks tickets. That doesn't make it right.

Ann41 Nov 7th, 2004 03:20 PM

Can't BELIEVE I missed the religious jewelry on the plane thread. Now that's a troll question if I've ever heard one, but a fun one, regardless.

LOL TopMan.....someone fimally was able to make me laugh this week ;)

The parking ticket can be traced back to the license plates of the rental car (Hertz, Avis, etc), so the rental car company would be liable for the ticket. Of course it will eventually be traced back to you if you were responsible for renting on that date.

Ergo, the rental car company will charge your credit card, including whatever penalties incurred.

It actually happened to me 15 years ago in Charleston, SC. A $10 ticket eventually ended up costing me $20. I can envision the same happening in Italy. ((b))

jdraper Nov 7th, 2004 03:46 PM

Would you even ask this question if you got a ticket in your home town? Of course you should pay the ticket and not think anything further about it.
