The best meal was across the lake from Montreux in Yvoire, a most delightful (but very, very toursity) town. It is postcard pretty. We had a wonderful lunch at Les Flots Bleus, with a delightful young waiter about 16 years old who loved practicing his English on us. When I tried to do my bad French, he asked if it was alright if we spoke English instead because he needed the practice. How's that for a change?

The other one was at Evian les Bains. We ate at a fairly large place in a sort of square up on the hill on the main pedestrian street (near the Evian water tourist office).

We found ourselves heading to Lausanne several times to pick up the boats (connections aren't great from Montreux). Although Lausanne is really spread out, I think I'd actually prefer it as a base, but would stay down by the lake, not up in the center.
I frankly doubt that most people would agree with my preference over Montreux though, which is a "prettier" town.

Yes, I'd recommend Hotel Suisse. I'm not familiar with Le Prese.

We also enjoyed going down to Tirano for part of a day from Poschiavo.

But actually, Poschiavo seems like an even smaller town than Weggis to me, and is certainly more "remote".

Patrick, we're certainly keeping you busy! Yes, I guess Poschiavo is even smaller than Weggis, but I didn't plan many activities while I was there. For Poschiavo, I *intend* to do a lot of hiking, walking, or cycling (on level ground -- if I can find any), so would only need to appreciate the ambiance before collapsing! I was just charmed by the lush greenery, the welcoming cafes, the mild air, and felt that I had to return.

Thanks, Patrick. I'm sure Montreux is more picturesque and we will love our daytrip there, but we really like city life at night. Glad to hear that Lausanne should be a good base.

I have now rented the London flat six or seven times, I have lost count, and just sent my deposit for 13 nights next May. I do it through Farnum and Christ: www.farnum-christ.com. If you tell them you're looking at Patrick's flat in Covent Garden, they'll know what you mean -- or call it the Floral Street flat.

Having looked at the Paris apt a couple of times now, I started having the thought that it would be a lovely holiday if we could stay in Paris for a week at the apt, buy Metro cards and museum cards and just spend the week walking and doing what ever we feel like doing, no itinerary this time.
Then train to London and stay in Covent Garden a few days, see a play a night, visit friends then come home.
We will name the trip after you, if we decide to do it :)

But it is about $1400 a week, not $900. Although you could contact the owner and for two weeks (isn't your stay about that) in November. . . maybe?
