Patrick and Montmartre
Patrick, I wanted a good restaurant with a great view, see if this was the loser you mentioned, please.
www.cabaretsmontmartre.com

Sorry to tell you, yes that's it. The funny thing is in my journals I always list the name of the restaurant and usually go into great detail about everything we ate and what wine we had. For that night I wrote, "we had reservations to eat at a highly recommended place up on Montmarte. The entire evening was a disaster - possibly the worst meal we've ever had in Paris. At least the view was truly spectacular (although they promised us a view table and we were about five rows back behind a large very loud tour group.)
Wish I had more to report, but I've truly blocked the meal out of my mind. If it is any consolation the view really is great and the place is always packed, so maybe we just had a bad night? I'd post a new one with the name of the restaurant. I bet a lot of people would know it by name and answer.

Good morning Patrick,
I am sure you are right about the food. Like THE LApin Agile, they are living off their reputations of old. Both were hangouts for the famous in the old days

My girlfriend and I were at the Lapine and saw the last few minutes of some singing. We asked for a refund of the hefty cover charge because we saw practically nothing. Our request was refused, and we have heard worse scenarios.

I thought Beauvilliers on rue Lamarck was supposed to be about the best restaurant in Montmartre, have you considered that? It's not cheap; I read Paul Bocuse likes it (don't know if that's true). Here's an amusing article about it in Seattle paper, referring to Zagats which does rate is very high for food and decor: http://seattlep-i.nwsource.com/getaw...098/zag30.html

Christina, that article made me laugh! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Christina, I've been to the Beauvilliers, I was looking for a spectacular view as well as the cuisine.
