Pasteurized Cheese in Austria and Czech Republic during Pregnancy
I am pregnant and am traveling to Austria and the Czech Republic next week. I love unpasteurized cheese, but am avoiding all unpasteurized dairy products during pregnancy due to the risk of listeria monocytogenes, which while probably won't hurt me could kill the baby.
I don't want to have to avoid all cheeses, but am trying to figure out how to determine what is cheese is pasteurized. Are there certain cheese that are okay? Or do I need to ask at each establishment? I do not speak any German or Czech so here are my attempts on how to ask in both languages "Is the cheese pasturized?".
Ist der Käse pasteurisiert? german
Je sýr pasterizované? czech
Could anyone fluent in these languages tell me if that is the right question to ask? I know most people will speak English, but not sure if "pasteurized" is a word they usually use in English.
Thanks so much for your help!
