Passport Question??

Is it better to expedite my passport through a private service or through the dept. of state? I read some of the posts but it seems not many people have used a private service. Is it worth it? I leave in 29 days. Thanks

What country?

Dukey Aug 13th, 2007 07:21 AM

use of the term "dept. of state" implies the US

New passport or renewing?

gf Aug 13th, 2007 07:22 AM

If a US passport, depends on the state you are in. In NYC, it is absolutely necessary! It takes so long these days to get renewals, add pages, let alone getting a new one! Good luck.

US passport (sorry)....I live in Arizona. I lost my passport sent in the proper form and recieved a response letter stating it has been "invalidated" . So I assume it is now a renewal.

leaving in 29 days and just trying to get a passport? LOL

Visited the US Virgin Islands a couple months ago, great place to go if u don't have a passport. The good thing is that if you look towards the sky going North East you can see planes flying over with people on their way to Europe.

I would prefer to hear people with something intelligent to say but thanks for you input Venusfan.

I will be leaving within the hour to a local passport office (not a regional) and must decide which service to use. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dukey Aug 13th, 2007 07:51 AM

If I used any service I would want to know if there are any guarantees and I would ask (the non-State Department one[s])..

"What makes you better than the State Department expedited service?" and then make a final decision.

EuropeRookie Aug 13th, 2007 07:55 AM

oh well....I was hoping to get responses from people who actually used the service or used the dept. of state. system and compare. Trying to get an honest answer by asking either one probably won't happen since there is competition between the two. Thanks anyway.

Hi ER,

Have you looked at
http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html

EuropeRookie Aug 13th, 2007 08:05 AM

Thanks Ira,
As usual you are very helpful. I have looked at the site and it does say 2-3 weeks delivery time from the date of application, but this is a government agency a getting things done in the promised time is not always the case! I read on here somewhere that a woman fed-ex the documents along with a fed-ex pre-paid return envelope. I may try that. Thoughts?
