passport q?
If an American Citizen and a UK Citizen are traveling from the USA to the UK what are the passport requirements for each?
If both passports expire in February 07 can they travel in December if all travel is completed by 15 December? Does either passport have to be valid beyond the date of travel? Thank you. |
Dr,
I would check with the appropriate authority. http://travel.state.gov/passport/abo...ncies_913.html http://www.ukpa.gov.uk/ ((b)) |
Hi D,
Budman is correct. Check with the governments. My concern would be whether the UK citizen would be allowed back into the US with less than 60 days remaining. ((I)) |
Customs usually like six months on a passport.

Actually it's airlines that get a bit jumpy if the passport is soon to expire.
Customs don't give a toss as they are interested in the goods you are carrying and by the time you've reached them you've already gone through passport control/immigration and collected your luggage For a US citizen the passport has to be valid on the day that the person leaves the UK*, if the passport doesn't have 6 months on it then the person only gets entry clearance up until the day the passport expires. For a UK citizen they can arrive on an expired passport as they are a citizen of the UK. * there's something in the back of my mind about an agreement between the US & UK which effectively extends the life of the passport by up to 6 months, so that you can arrive on a soon to expire passport but still be allowed to stay in the country for the normal length of visa - ie you enter on a valid passport but leave on an expired one. |
