passport expiring soon

Hi I have a passport question. My hubby is traveling to Italy on business in october and the passport expires in Jan.
I have read that some countries do not allow you in if the passport is going to expire within 6 months. Is this true?

thanks in advance

Your best resource for this question is the Department of State web site, perhaps followed up by a call or message to your nearest Italian consulate or embassy.

yes, it is true for some countries, but you only need to worry about Italy. It isn't true for all of them, I know.

Italy's requirement is 3 months beyond the intended stay so not only might he be denied entry -- the airline might refuse to let him fly.

But why worry - he can renew now, there is plenty of time before Nov.

You can also renew a U.S. passport in foreign countries. (Mine has been renewed in France since the 1970's.)
Frankly, they are not looking for Americans to harrass in any of the EU countries. Anybody with documentation can get through bent rules at any time.

"<i>Anybody with documentation can get through bent rules at any time.</i>"

Yes - many get through -- but some do not. So why bend the rules when, like in this situation, it isn't even necessary.

I renewed a passport last spring. From the day I sent it in via regular mail until the day I got the new one back was less than 3 weeks. Normal service, not expedited. You can do everything you need to from your home.
