Phew Travelgirl

I can feel your stress. So glad it worked out. There is less and less room in todays's world for assuming things will go by the book.

I applied for my son's passport on June 24 and did not pay for expidited service. I received it yesterday, August 15th, less than 8 weeks later. They must be getting it together somewhat. I didn't expect it til mid-September.

We just received our grandson's passport yesterday and it took only 4 weeks!!!

My daughter paid the regular amount for her passport and received it in 12 weeks. My son paid for expedited and just received his after 11 weeks! We called to tell them that we are leaving in two weeks and we had it within 5 days. He is going to send in a request for a refund of the expedited fees.

My D-I-L applied for her new passport on April 6. She does not have it yet. I think she used a local 'service', hope they can track down the paperwork.

I guess we were very lucky. It wasn't even an expedited passport application. We're not traveling until March with him, but with all the nightmare stories we decided to apply early. We're in Cincinnati, and I'm not sure which office it went to.

I hope the rest of you receive your passports very soon.

I'm in shock. I sent in my passport renewal on July 12 and got it back yesterday...that's 5 weeks and 4 days. And this was standard order...no rush. Seems like passport turnaround is luck of the draw.

My friend applied for her first passport on July 21st at a MD post office and received it in less than 4 weeks. She won't need it until early 08 so it wasn't expedited. Hopefully we are seeing the end of the passport backlog ;;) Deborah

Yesterday afternoon received my new passport, almost 4 months to the day from when I sent in my renewal application and was told not to bother with expedited service as renewals "only take 3-4 weeks"! But at last I can start planning a new trip.

Mr Again called, he got the mail, my renewed passport came in exactly 2 months later. June 29 - August 29.

I live in San Francisco (does it make any difference?) and mailed the passport to the address I don't remember now :) but to the address on the website.

I just received my son's new passport, 74 days after submitting it, without expediting, without express mailing, and without putting down travel plans. In fact, we applied at our local library on Sat, so it likely didn't go out until Mon. Perhaps things are getting back to normal.

Planning on a trip to Great Britain next July. Won round trip tickets!! Had to get passports for both Hubby and I. Applied at our main post office and both recieved passports in 5 weeks!! Could the crunch be over?

Naturlover, how great is that - winning a trip!!!

I stumbled upon your post as I researched passports. I need to renew mine soon and was wondering how things were going for posters here. Someone told me to include a small amount of cash with my renewal application and it will be processed faster. I may try it.

Have a wonderful trip and Congratulations to you!

I sent our application for renewal of passports in on Sept. 10th to the Philadelphia office and we received our new passports in the regular mail on Sept. 19th!!! We did expedite. I believe the rush is over.

I posted about my renewal problems. For reasons unknown to me, our passports have been lost. I contacted my congressman and hopefully we are back on track. I'll know when I receive them.

Wanted to share some good passport news, as we used everyone's advice from this post. It took just 7 days (9/18-9/25) for my son's passport renewal. He paid to expedite, and paid to send it FedEx both ways. He did not list any travel date on the application. Thanks for all the advice. It does appear that the rush is lessening, doesn't it? More good news: my mother got her very first passport ever (she's in her 70s---I'm taking her to Rome in February) in 13 days, including mailing time. She was very, very excited.

So looks like they've worked through their backlog and are staffed appropriately.

I received my new passports less than one week after contacting my congressman's office. Still do not have my old passports and will probably never see them again.
