It´s the restaurant of Hotel Niza...but it would not be a place for pintxos, rather a place to enjoy a nice lunch. Salmorejo would never be a Basque pintxo, it´s just not part of our culture, but of course feel welcome to try it here!
It´s like paella...northern Spain is not the place to enjoy it. |
And the Narru restaurant in the Hotel Niza with salmorejo on the menu is just a five-ten mins walk from the old town and right on the wonderful La Concha Beach promenade.
And many of the best pintxos bars are outside the Parte vieja/Old town. I´d add Bar Antonio and bar Zazpi, apart from those mentioned by Kimhe, and bar Ordizia in the old town (great grilled squid, on order)

So last night of my trip, during which I saw plenty of places offering paella and salmorejo for lunch.
Maybe they're catering to tourists who've visited other parts of Spain. But guess what, you can get prepare gazpacho and salmorejo at the supermarket. I just picked up a Carrefour branded one -- they had a few different types -- and it tastes pretty much like the ones at the restaurant, minus the little bits of ham or other garnish they might put in as well as some bread. I've seen some recipes but wish they'd sell the premade stuff in the US. |
"minus the little bits of ham or other garnish" they do make a difference! And yes, paella and salmorejo are for the tourists, as is the sagria, but they are not offered at our favorite pintxos bars.
