Paros floods

So sad to hear about the flooding in Paros and Mykonos yesterday! We are to visit Paros May 26-30 and were really looking forward to being there. Any thoughts on whether to change plans?

Parians will be working hard to get everything cleaned up in time for Easter, April 20th this year. Photos I’ve seen of the day after the floods show water drained away, leaving behind mud and other debris on the streets. At the end of May, when you arrive on Paros, I predict nearly everything will be back to normal.

Virginiafish, flights into Paros Airport and ferries to Parikia are operating as normal. There seems to have been damage to some of the island’s road network. The mayor of Paros is advising residents and visitors to avoid travelling on the island’s roads while cleanup continues. Here is an English-language website with a story about the storm:

Using Google Translate, I found this article that shows recovery is well underway, even only a day after the storm. Hope my link works:

Heimdall, Thank you for your helpful replies!

We will be arriving in Paras the day after Easter. Wonder what conditions will be like then.

If you read the whole article that Heimdall posted, it mentions that a "winter storm" could be brewing. Yikes!

Greece May 23-30 Need Help due to floods

We were supposed to visit Chania, Crete and Paros this week. The recovery efforts from the unfortunate floods is moving along, but we are concerned that this may not be the best time to experience these islands. Prior to this time, starting May 12th, we will have visited Athens, Delphi, Nafplio, Meteora. Any suggestions as to another island(s) or area of Greece where we would enjoy this extra week?

Check your other thread. You received some good feedback.

Maybe also have mods combine your threads?

Or Cyprus or Rhodes?

A lot of southern Europe has been having massive rainstorms this spring (CC in action) there are solutions

neckervd Apr 3rd, 2025 08:15 AM

Rhodos would be a better solution anyway.
But seriously: Not the whole Island of Paros has been damaged.
May be that it would be rather difficult to find remnants of flood damages in May.

Heimdall Apr 4th, 2025 01:17 AM

These were flash floods, and the water drained away by the next day. As I mentioned in the other thread, islanders are working hard to clear away the mud and other debris in time for the important Greek Easter holiday later this month. I agree with neckervd who wrote: “May be that it would be rather difficult to find remnants of flood damages in May.”

Islanders survive the rest of the year on revenue made in the summer months, so it’s not surprising they are in a hurry to get things back to normal. Why don’t you give Paros the support it needs for a successful summer season?
