PARLEZ-VOUZ ANGLAIS?
"Do you speak English?" That is what we will be saying alot of in Paris for our big one day excursion from London in March, Unless someone tells me (oh please!) that we will be surprised to find how many Parisians speak English. And, also what are the admittance fees for the Eiffel Tower & Louve? Anyone know? Thanks in advance!

English is commonly spoken, I have traveled to Paris and throughout France for many years and never had a problem. Last time I was in Paris, March 96, prices very reasonable and dollar is higher now than it was then. Use the subway system: the price of taxis is incredible. I think that you'll find Paris is cheaper than England and the food, even in cheap places, is usually outstanding, something you can't say for England. Also, admission to churches and many sights is free or not very expensive, except for tours of Versailles

Hi, plan to be in Paris in mid April do you know how we can get a list of of current plays and theatre
|
Go to Paris Pages and it lists the opera and
theatre and cultural calender for Paris. |
Yes, in Paris you will have no problem with people being able to speak English. However, as in any country a simple :Bonjour or Pardon or even Comme t'allez vous? (How are you) is met with great appreciation--Je ne parle pas francais is all that is needed afterwards....Have a wonderful time and don't worry about prices--when will you ever be there again to enjoy it so go for it now! |
Don't neglect to by a Paris Museum Card (you can get them at the tourist office, participating museums or big metro stations. You can get into more than 60 attractions (Museums & monuments) and you go to the head of the line! Almost everything you want is included.
Visit www.ricksteves.com/ for some "back door" suggestions. If you can purchase his guide to go along with your Fodor's, you'll be set! |
I've found that in just about any heavily touristed city in Europe, most people speak some English. But "pardon, parlez-vous anglais?" should always be your opening line. You don't want to assume anything so always ask in _their language_ if they speak English. Regarding prices and fees, get a good guide book (a must anyway) for this kind of stuff.
