Parking Outside Athens? Don't want to drive in the city!
I am flying into Kosovo to meet up with a dear friend, and we are renting a car and driving down through Greece, ending at Athens for a few days. She will then drive back to Kosovo, and I'm off to Naxos for a few days.
We know for sure that we don't want to drive in Athens! We are trying to figure out where we can safely park the rental car for a few days while we are in the city (I don't think returning the old car and getting a new one after Athens is an option).
We know the airport has long term parking--but as we are approaching from the North and the airport is South of the city this would require us to circumnavigate Athens, which seems like a needless aggravation if we have other options. Does anybody have any ideas? Are there any train stations north of the city with safe parking lots? We're not looking for a free option, just a secure one.

I have no experience north of Athens, but the airport has really good freeway access and it probably wouldn't be as time-consuming to park there as you might think. The signs are great, it's certainly secure, and again... the great expressway access means you'd be back on your way pretty quickly.

nicegirl512 the airport is not south of the city and it's a good option to leave your car there.
From the main national road as you approach Athens, after Kifisia exit and close to Metamorfosi exit you'll enter "Attiki Odos" and it will lead you in 20min. to the airport. From there you can take the metro and get downtown to Syntagma or wherever your hotel is. With Attiki Odos it's very easy to find the airport from the national road and you won't get stuck to any city traffic.

i've just seen what you mean by 'south' in google earth but really it's not that far as it may seem in a map
From what i can see you will be in E75 from north to Athens. So when you'll be approaching Athens you have to check the Kifissia exit, and after the "Metaforfosi" exit you'll have to enter the E94 (Attiki odos) with the direction of the airport (Elefherios Venizelos or Markopoulos. I don't remeber what's written in the exit). From the time you enter ATtiki Odos it's about 20 minutes and it's very easy really.
Have fun on your vacation!!

Thank you Cristine! I don't feel so put out at having to go "all" the way to the airport now. I researched a few other options (the Athens Mall and the Olympic stadium complex) but the airport seems the best one.

The other options that you mentioned are a little bit closer and very easy too, but have you checked the charges for parking there?
I know that in the Mall they charge by the hour, but you can send them an email and check if the price for more days.. maybe they can get you a discount! And the train is right across the entrance!
