Parking in Paris
I need to self park my car for 3 nights in Paris. Is there a website that has parking locations listed and the costs? Is there any free street parking areas that might offer this possibility?
|
Hi N,
Enter "parking" and "Paris" at www.pagesjaunes.fr www.viamichelin.com and www.mappy.com also show parking lots. ((I)) |
..on street parking for free is essentially non existant. Parking is expensive but there are lots which can be found as mentioned above.
|
There is a website that lists garages, location and rates:
http://www.infoparking.com/parking/public/ I think it is only in French, but maybe you know that or can figure it out. |
Been there and done that. Park your steed in New York City and fly to Paris. No need to thank me for this helpful advice. Take the metro and trains when you get there.
Free parking in Paris? LOL. But I actually did that 30 years ago overnight on the Champs-Élysées. |

Under "l'Enterprise" then "Implantations" then "Paris" then click on the map, various locations... |
Vinci has the largest network of carparks, but it is not the only company operating such establishments.
Parking is free on Sunday and in a lot of streets on Saturday. Parking is free everywhere between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. Meter prices are extremely variable -- from 1€ an hour to 6€ an hour. They do not take coins -- you must purchase a "carte de stationnement" with a microchip from a tabac. 10€ or 30€. If you park a car overnight but know that you will not be using it before, say, 10 a.m., you can get the parking ticket out of the machine the night before -- as they are computerized, they know which hours count and which do not. It is really not a big deal to park a car in Paris if you know the rules, but if you want to park on the street, you often have to go around the block 5 or 6 times. |
Plus with street parking as a non resident you can only pay for a couple of hours at a time.
|
If parking on the street, you also have to be careful not to park on a delivery spot (except in the evenings/on Sundays), which is a parking space marked with a big X. My husband's car was impounded because he left it parked on a delivery space on a Saturday morning.

It is a good point to mention impounding. The Parisian authorities are very serious about this in any 'no parking' zone, crosswalk, delivery zone or whatever. Besides the parking fine, they will stick a red impoundment sticker on the left front window. Private garages are authorized to tow away the cars to the impoundment centers, and they get a good bonus for doing so, so tow trucks are always on the lookout for the red stickers. If you absolutely MUST leave a car unattended in an unauthorized place for a few minutes, be sure to put the flashers on -- this will buy you a few moments of tolerance in front of something like a pharmacy.
