Parking in Florence
 

Hello, I am planning to stay in Florence for a week in May and just heard that the city is doing major road projects and so I will not be able to park near the apartment.

Though I considered doing without the car, I do want to visit the tuscan countryside and have more flexibility than the bus routes.

So can someone assist me in suggesting a place for overnight parking either in the city of nearby?

Do you really want to pay for a week's rental of a car and parking, just to avoid taking a bus?

However, go to www.mappy.com and www.viamichelin.com. They will both show parking lots.

Can't your apartment agent tell you where to park?

I was going to drive into Florence but the Hotel indicated there was no parking oon the premmises and they had an arangement with a local parking garage for 20 Euros a day. I will be taking a train into Florence and renting a car on the way out now.

ira and pete_coach - thanks for your responses. Yeah, the extra charges do seem foolish. Just not sure how else to get out to Chianti, Montalcino, Montepulciano, etc, easily without worrying about bus schedules. Take care, tony

Take a car even if you have to pay for parking. You have so much more flexibility and can do impromptu things however the drawback is getting in and out of the city. We are going next year as we haven't been back to Florence in several years. Last time we were at a hotel but this time we re looking for an apartment. If you are renting an apartment, I'm collecting names of websites to check out.
