parking in Florence

Can anyone speak about driving our car into Florence, parking for 2 days and then driving to Rome in time for our flight out on Saturday at 1PM.

If you are parking your car for 2 days surely it would make sense to take it back to the rental agency, then organise a taxi to take you to the airport, or even hire another car - although it seems hardly worth it for one journey.

Hi gerig,

If your flight leaves at 1:00, you should be at check in about 11:00, which means drop off car at 10:00, which means leave florence at 7:00, or 6:30 to to be sure.

Wouldn't you be better off if you were in Rome the night before?

Alternatively, you could take the 7:53 ES* from Florence and be at FCO by 10:30.

One might even add "prudently".

Probably not worth hanging on to the car; turn it in upon arrival in Florence.

Best wishes,

Rex

My suggestion would be to drop off your car when you get to Florence, and take the train to Rome. Last week I picked up a car in Florence - it took 15 minutes to walk to the rental dealership, and 35 minutes to drive back to the hotel! Once we got out of Florence, it was great to have the car to tour Tuscany. However, when we returned to Rome, the traffic to get to the airport was horrible. We were really glad that we had dropped the car off the night before we departed. Also, taking the train would be less expensive than keeping a car for 2 days and then driving back to Rome.

If you do decide to park the car in Florence, you can check with your hotel. We spent a night there with a car. The hotel parked the car for us for about $15, in addition to the garage fee (about $25). This was 3 years ago, so it's probably a bit more than that. Getting around these cities by car is not all that pleasant so the extra fee to have someone else deal with it, was well worth it. They also picked up the car and drove it back to the hotel when we left.
