Parking along the Romantic Road
 

Hi-

I will be driving along the Romantic Road later this month and will be stopping at many small towns along the way (Rotenberg, etc) and was wondering what the parking situation is these towns is like.

Are there ample parking spaces? Are they free? Is there parking lots? I'm pretty clueless about this so any help would be great!

Parking is no problem, altough you may have to pay for it. Rothenburg (note spelling!)has plenty of parking outside of the city walls, with short walks into the city.

Keep in mind, The Romantische Strasse (Romantic highway) is just a road that connects several attractive places - - - like the church in Creglingen, the towns of Rothenburg and Dinkelsbuehl, etc. Ther is nothing special about the road itself.

And the road is no highway but just a normal country road.

and "Romantische Strasse" is better translated as "Roman Road" than "Romantic Road".

ira, I think I have to disagree with you. "Roman Highway" would translate in German as Romanische Strasse or Roemische Strasse. But, whatever ......

In the "walled cities" such as Dinklesbuhl, Nordlingen, and Rothenburg, you can generally park right outside of the old town walls and walk in. Some of the towns have garages right outside, some have public lots. I don't have any special memories of parking problems, so I think it must have been pretty easy and self-explanatory.

Regardless of the technical translation, the road follows the route of the old Roman road through the Alps and into the center of Germany.
