Amy,
I stayed at the Saint Louis. Nice hotel, renovated mansion, well run, good clean rooms but not large, small elevator. Never had, but serve breakfast in vaulted basement. It is a great location. You will get more of a "villagey" feel staying here. Local traffic on street. Plenty of interesting shops and restaurants ....recommend Reine Blanche, Gourmet de L'isle(beamed basement) as good eating places. Also has Berthillon outlet for ice cream...Easy walking distance to Notre Dame, heart of Left Bank (good restaurants along Seine)..Bit further walk for Metro, so a cab may be best way to get to hotel.
Hope this helps

A few more questions for all you very helpful folks . . .
Mel - do you remember the rate for a double at Hotel Claude Bernard?
Mike - same question for Hotel St. Louis.
Anyone - any experience with Hotel de la Sorbonne? I have a reservation there and the location seems fine, but I can't seem to find anyone who has ever stayed there. Thanks for your feedback.

I was in Paris in Oct. and stayed at the Hotel du Quai Voltaire, right on the Seine across from the Louve, two blocks from the d'Orsay and 4 the other way to Notre Dame. Wonderful location to most everything. 1600 century building updated with bathrooms. Helpful staff. Check out Les Bookinistes, a great neighborhood restaurant on the same side of the street towards Notre Dame.
