Your new choice of hotel is much better. We stayed in that area once and found it to be fine. Have a great trip, and remember AJ's First Law of Paris Vacations: Eat a different pastry every day.

Is it that you have a reason for the Novhotel chain? If so, perhaps the hotel at the Gare de Lyon would be a possible too. It's in a more interesting area near the Promenade Plantee, marche d'Aligre, and lots and lots of cafes. South of the Gare de Montparnasse is pretty sterile while the area around the Gare de Lyon still has residential cute little streets like rue Cremieux. Just an idea.

Agreed and the proximity to the 1 metro line gets you easily to many places. Not to mention you are very close to the Seine and in that area the riverbank has some cool places to hang out and have a drink (or bring down a picnic.)

Impossible for anybody to know beforehand, but you will discover once you are in Paris that there is almost no such thing as a bad location. Both have their positive and negative points.

However, I will not add to the debate.

No, I can't help it: I hate any place near the Seine. Go figure.
