Paris: Where would you stay - Blvd Garibaldi (15th), Blvd de Magenta(10th), or Rue de Liege (9th)?

My two teens, husband, and I have reservations at the Jardins de Paris Morny Saint Lazarre, 4 Rue de Liege, in the 9th - just around the corner from Rue de Clichy (not Boulevard de Clichy). But...I'm having second thoughts since learning that the nearest Metro stop closes early in the evening, and I'm not sure about walking in the evening from the Place de Clichy metro stop.

The Relais de Paris Republique at 38 Boulevard de Magenta in the 10th and Hotel Derby Garibaldi at 92 Boulevard Garibaldi in the 15th (but right on the border with the 7th) both have quads available for our dates in our price range of 150 Euros or less..

Which of these three would you choose if you were evaluating them based on pleasantness of location and convenience of Metro lines?

(We arrive at Gare du Nord from London at 4 pm on a Tuesday. Plan to spend late afternoon/evening in Montmartre. Plan for Wednesday keeps us mostly closer to the Sienne - Louvre in a.m., picnic lunch somewhere, a little down time at the hotel, then Champs Elysees, Notre Dame, dinner, and an evening boat ride on the Siene.)

Your opinions regarding the hotels and/or their locations would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I would vote for the 15th, at Hotel Derby Garibaldi, which gets good comments on Tripadvisor:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...de_France.html

You will be situated between several metro lines for good connections, and near the Marche Saxe-Breteuil.

Magenta is somewhat near the Gare de l'Est, but maybe not too close to it; it has 2 comments on TA, both good...
The one on rue de Leige is near the Gare St Lazare area; no comments on TA...

Yes, the Derby Garibaldi in the 15th does get great reviews on Tripadvisor. What befuddles me, though, is when I go to www.photos.pagesjaunes.fr the street scenes look, well...horrid. Particularly compared to the Blvd de Magenta address. Perhaps the photos are misleading?

I'd also recommend anywhere in the 15th, but I don't know specifically where your hotel is located there. If you can't stay in the 7th (my favorite) the 15th IMO is the next best---not too far from Eiffel, Invalides, the river, and lots of nice places to see and good restaurants too. Good luck.

Yes, I can see your point about the attactiveness of the streets... the Relais de Paris Republique is on a broad tree-lined avenue with lots of storefronts... the only drawback might be street/traffic noise, but usually that's not a problem if you can close the windows at night.

The Derby Garibaldi is about 1/2 block from the above-ground metro...that might be noisy, too. You might be changing my mind!

More on the Relais de Paris Republique:

1. Gate1 travel uses it (not sure if this is a + or - )

2. on this website:
http://www.hotelclub.net/DirectHotel...4&outYear=2005
43 reviewers rank it 4.11 out of 5, which is very good.

Here is a sample:
"..We found this hotel excellent. Many european nationals staying. A hint it is 20 mins from Gard de Nord. However if you walk left out of the hotel you will find a metro 3 mins and fab resturants. We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks. If arriving at the Gard de Nord turn left and walk. The hop on hop off bus stop is minutes walk. Everyone is so friendly and speak many languages. Enjoy we highly recomend. 23-May-2004
A friendly hotel in quite a good location close to Republique Square and metro. Stations only 15 mins away. Room a bit small but shower hot and powerful. Cleaning staff a bit quick off the mark in morning. Breakfast ok. Would reccomend if you want comfortable warm room with quite good facilities. 24-Feb-2004 ..."

I really would not choose any of those locations, I think they are all pretty bad. The area around the RDP Republique is not a place I care to hang around, either, and I have been there (in day time). It is true the exact strett with the hotel may be more attractive, though. It really depends how used to big urban grit you are and lower income/immigrant urban environments. You are NOT going to want to be wandering around there at night when it is dark.

I looked at those photos and they don't look alarming or that unusual to me. It is right near the Sevres LeCourbe metro stop which is what you can see in one of those photos of proximite (some overhead els around there). It's very near some nice park areas, and a good market at Breteuil.

I would still prefer that location to the one near Gare du Nord. The only thing I'd be concerned about is if the metro caused a lot of noise as it is a train running very nearby. But if the reviews on tripadvisor did not mention that, I'd go with that one.

Travel from the address in the 15th to most of the "sights" most likely will take longer.

Thank you for your replies. And thanks, travelnut, for the reviews at hotelclub.com. I hadn't seen those. I'm still torn. Any other opinions?

Travelnut and Keren, thank you for the hotel suggestions. They all look very inviting. I think I probably will keep looking beyond the three I mentioned in my initial post.

While I'm not expecting anyone to have a crystal ball, is it reasonably safe to assume that we won't need air conditioning to sleep comfortably in early June (June 7 and 8 to be precise)? Wunderground.com tells me the average high is a comfortable a 72 and the average low is around 60 - but I remember hearing about that terrible heat wave in France a few years back. I suppose that was a rarity.

Yes, that's a safe assumption for your dates.

The latest hotels that Travelnut and Keren suggested are all better locations than any of your initial selections (especially - Hotel Michelet Odeon).

Good luck.
