We will be in Paris from 30 Aug-6 Sept. Is it usually wet or dry then?

My advice to clients has always been to carry two things -- an umbrella and sunglasses. Parisian weather is capricious.

Click above on Destinations, put in Paris and toward the middle of the page on the right you can put in your dates for a historical records.

Weather forecasts for Paris are fairly useless more than 48 hours in advance and even within 48 hours there is only a slightly better than 50% chance they're accurate. I know because I have a job here that depends on the weather and I am constantly watching the forecast. I can't tell you how many times I have watched an extended forecast change, sometimes two or three times during the same day. While the temperature predictions are generally fairly reliable the predictions of rain/no rain are anyone's guess.

There are any number of websites you can use to get weather info. One of the local ones I use (among many) is www.meteo.fr. As I said, the temp predictions are generally reliable but as far as precipitation it's pretty much a coin toss. There are no guarantees when it comes to weather in Paris. Often we get a bit of everything all in the same day. Bring your umbrella and sunglasses is good advice indeed.

In a week it would be fairly unusual for you not to get any rain. How much and when is anyone's guess. Never go anywhere in europe without a sturdy folding umbrella.

Usually drier than other times of year, and warm or sometimes hot. However, the weather is highly variable in autumn, so be prepared for cooler weather and/or frequent showers, just in case.

My experience is that it is variable...a travel umbrella is a must! Dress in layers to be prepared for the swings in temperature.

The best site for information on weather in Paris is http://www.meteo-paris.com, much more detail than the official Météo France site and usually more accurate. Second would probably be Weather Underground, http://www.wunderground.com.

However, as FrenchMystiqueTours has indicated, there isn't any place where you can get reliable forecasts more than 48 hours ahead. That's just a scientific impossibility. In deserts weather services can correctly guess that every day will pretty much be the same, but in highly variable temperate climates like that of Paris, you never really know until you get there.

For this reason, always bring both cool and warm clothing, with layers that you can add or remove.

I doubt if there is ever any month in Paris where you can be certain it will only be dry, Paris is a fairly rainy city, all in all. Of course there are some months that are wetter than others, especially December, April and May. September is in the middle in terms of rainfall for Paris, among all months. August is not.

I wouldn't ever go anywhere on vacation without an umbrella, except maybe some desert location. But I'd expect some rain at times, but not pouring every day so it will ruin your trip.

Well, Paris has been swept by heavy showers at regular intervals for the past 24 hours or so, and the temperature is now well below seasonal norms, whereas it was above only 48 hours earlier. Impossible to say what it will be like even 24 hours from now.

It is very hard to predict, as everyone says. I like to look at wunderground.com for historical data, but even knowing the "averages" doesn't help a lot. I was there for 13 days this past April, and there was no rain, temps way above normal; black cashmere sweaters were not working.

Right now Paris is in the midst of another heat wave, although the heat is tempered slightly by the fact that Fall has begun. Still, temps around 85° to 90° F are possible on the street. This is about 16° F above normal.
