Paris Vacation

Looking to take my wife to paris next year. I have Hilton points and may stay at the Paris Hilton. Is this a nice hotel? Also, does anyone have any tips on planning a 10 day trip to Paris. What other cities should we visit? We may want to take a side trip to London too - is this feasible? Any advice?

It's a nice hotel - not "French" but nice. Here are comments from other people:
Paris Hilton-
a big, modern hotel
a "Hilton"
great amenities
no charm
good for business travelers
We enjoyed staying here
too far from central area
kind of a cold place, no warmth
thoroughly enjoyed the experience
The bathrooms are marble with all amenities.
Staff is fabulous and very American-friendly.
Had a fine time
smiling friendly hotel staff.
would prefer a more central location
I highly recommend it for a stay to anyone.
OUr room was immaculately maintained
Completely refurbished
our room was large, for Paris
concierges were excellent
housekeeping, outstanding.
A side trip to London very easy via the Eurostar through the Chunnel. 3 hours downtown to downtown.
For more Paris information e-mail me.

Ray,

I'm certainly not an expert on Paris like some of the posters here are, but my first trip to Paris was 10 days and I thought it was a perfect length of time. We did one day trip to Versailles but other than that we just stayed in the city and we certainly never felt like we had seen everything or were ready to move on. We were able to use the other 9 days to leisurely enjoy the sights, rather than rushing around.

If you think you want to go to London, you should look into an open jaw ticket where you fly into Paris and out of London or vice versa.

I'm sure some of the other posters will have great suggestions for you and happy planning!

Christine

We stayed at the Paris Hilton near the eiffel tower, I don't know if that is the one to which you refer. It was like staying in an americal hotel, this was three years ago. The restaurant was called Le Western, that kind of sums up the hotel. We were there for a conference so went to a hotel in the 6th arrondissement as soon as it was over. The Hilton was expensive so we found a less expensive hotel that was alot more charming. We were certainly comfortable at the Hilton and if we really stretched our bodies out over the balcony we could see the eiffel tower. We were on about the 15th floor so we didn't do that too often, however. Location is "C", ambience a "D" comfort a "B". It all depends on what you are looking for in a hotel. I love Paris so spending 10 days would not be a problem at all, in June I will be there 12 days and still it is not enough time. Good luck with your planning, that really is half the fun of a trip.

We stayed in a small, "typically Parisian" hotel in the 6th arron. when we went to Paris. I was so excited about staying in a really Parisian atmosphere, and it WAS fun and charming. But honestly, I wouldn't care where I stayed next time. The reason is that we tend to spend so little time in our hotel that it just doesn't matter where we sleep and shower as long as the place is clean and decent. They all look the same from behind my eyelids!

If money is an object, and you get a really big savings by staying at the Hilton, do so and save your money for better things (like shopping!). You could easily spend the whole 10 days in Paris and not see everything, but you could do 5 in Paris, 5 in London; or 5 in Paris, 3 in London and a couple of day trips from Paris (like to Chartres or Versailles for example, and there are other places, too). The train service is great. There are all kinds of ways you could configure it. Depends on your energy level most of all.

There are a lot of nice people here who know a lot about Paris and environs, and I know they'll have suggestions for you.

Good luck! Yippee!! Lucky you!
