I was at Ciel de Paris last Monday night. One of the most overpriced, badly serviced places I've ever been to in Paris, though I do love going up there for a drink and the views.
The prices are just outrageous. The drinks suck. Among us, we had a dry martini, a mojito, a stinger, and a gin and tonic. We all wished we'd just ordered a beer or glass of wine. The waitress dropped a drink all over my niece (the last time I was there the bartender opened a bottle of champagne and completely doused the piano player), and another waiter dropped an entire tray of drinks. We ordered, and another waitress showed up about 10 minutes later, saying "Désolée, mais on a oublié quelques commandes," and asked us to place the order all over again.
I didn't see anything on the menu that would warrant the prices they were asking, and I didn't see any food being served that I'd really want to eat.
Go up and have a drink. Go somewhere else for a good, reasonably priced meal.

Robespierre any idea how hard it is to get into Cieldeparis? Does the internet booking actually work that well or better to call?
I've only been there once, for lunch, and both the service and food were outstanding. It was about half-full at 13h00. There were five in our party, and the total was well under €200. I don't remember what everyone ate, but I had a poached ray steak, someone had beef medallions, and #1 son had rabbit. No one complained.
The reservation I made on line was acknowledged immediately, and the doorman at ground level showed us to the special express elevator without incident.

James, like you, we always look for the crepe places. My favorite is Fromage et Champignon - yummmmmm!
But our favorite place, and one we will be going back to in October, is La Cave de l'Os Moelle. It is an offshoot of L'Os Moelle, owned by a chef whose name I can't remember right now, but La Cave is actually a wine shop so you can pick your wine when you get there, and you pay wine shop prices, not restaurant prices. There are three large tables and the food is served family style. You never know what you are going to get or who you will sit next to. We were there for dinner, but I think it is also open for lunch.
We just had such a great time there. We ended up going out for drinks with French couple that we sat with.
