My friends and relatives are safe ( actually since I am FB friends with some of them it was interesting to see that FB had sent me notifications from them.... they simply register as "safe" and FB sent out notification to those on their friends list for them.. I have emailed back and forth one friend who is still very stressed because they have not released official lists of wounded or dead.. so those still trying to track down friends or loved ones still are doing it all one by one.. simply not having your phone charged can send your loved ones into a panic if they can't get ahold of you..
I am going again next May.. no plans to cancel.. but perhaps I will be nervous sitting outside a café now... I admit that..

The reason it is taking so long to contact friends and family is because it is taking a long time to identify the bodies.
Many people left their purse or jacket (along with their ID's) in the vestiaire and others were too disfigured, so very difficult to identify them.
Before these bodies could be moved, technicians had to try to collect as much DNA and other evidence as possible, so their bodies could not be taken to the morgue before this was completed.
I found out this information late last night, when I also learned that I lost a friend who had been celebrating his birthday on a cafe terrace when the gunmen opened fire and killed everyone there.

For any tourists who are wondering when things will open up again, the city is observing a 3-day period of mourning. Look for the usual tourist attractions to re-open on Tuesday. Public parks are closing at 6 PM, which may continue after Tuesday. Outdoor markets are closed today as are movie theatres.
People are still being advised to stay home as much as possible, to make things easier for the police who have to supervise everyone more closely than usual.

Fuzz....I am so sorry.
We are in the 5th and went out this morning......a beautiful day, just beautiful...clear, balmy, Paris blue skies.....you are captivated, and then....you remember.....
Many people out and about and it almost seems normal, but, one major thing is missing........the music......it is so quiet, the street musicians are not there, the eerie quiet is all.......it is the music of sadness.....

Fuzzbucket, so very sorry for your loss. I can understand the problem with naming those that have died. I just can't imagine families trying to id their loved ones. We did hear last night that one of the band's crew was killed, the guy selling tee shirts and a student from California.
I was wondering how the hospitals are handling the many wounded that needed surgery. I saw the lines for donating blood yesterday. It has to be a huge stress on the hospitals and doctors.
I feel for the dead but the first respondents and the by standers must be in shock. One guy was on tv and he had just walked by the one cafe and they went into another when the shooting started. They kept them inside till the police told them they could leave four hours later. He said the staff fed them and tried keeping them calm on the floor of the restaurant but they had their phones and were getting all the news as they sat there waiting.

My heart goes out to all Paris and France. We are living in strange times and the randomness of these attacks are horrifying. We are all vulnerable.
