No point in checking the US State Dept travel warnings - the French page hasn't been updated since February. Use the UK Foreign Office site.

This is unbelievably tragic. And infuriating.

Flights and rail services to remain open


France's foreign ministry said airports in the country would remain open and flights and rail services would continue despite co-ordinated attacks across Paris.

"Airports continue to function. Airline flights and train services will be assured," the ministry said in a statement.

Heartbreaking.

France 24, which is what we've been warching, seems to be doing a good job with the limited info available. A shocking evening, as the night unfolds the news just keep getting worse.

Tears for all French people. My flight attendant daughter says flight s on her airline left US as scheduled. She has no landing info yet. I can't believe this tragedy. I've been in this neighborhood several times. My thoughts are with all the wonderful Parisians we've met through the years

As expected, Jeb Bush blames much of it on Obama:

"Bush called the attacks "the war of our time," according to tweets from the conservative radio host. The presidential candidate also seized on the violence to criticize President Barack Obama's policy in the Middle East, suggesting that withdrawing troops from Iraq "allowed the energy to form to create ISIS."

No mention of is brother's many contributions to the situation.

Fuzzbucket, they said they had many ambulances waiting outside the concert hall for they knew there were going to be many needing transport.
I think every station has a different number of deaths but the fact that these mad men are still at large is frightening. Stay safe.

I'm so thankful that my family band just got back from France last weekend after a month of concerts in France and Belgium. Many Fodorites know my guys (Syd, Shane, etc)...the California-based heavy metal band besieged at the concert hall are ALL safe. My guys knew them all and are so relieved for that news. Insanity is here in earnest now. No end in sight. This is war...no other words for it.

There are several Fodorites visiting Paris right now. All I am acquainted with are safe, sound and saddened by this.

Be safe everyone....I hate to hear about senseless violence violence anywhere.

Heartfelt condolences to Paris... This has got to end. What has Paris been such a huge target lately? Charlie Hebdo, the train from Belgium to Paris (I think it was Belgium?), and now this! I'm starting to re-think my travel plans for next summer.

Much harder to thwart.

Brubenow, many of us were living & or travelling in the UK during the IRA bombings, and later, random attacks across Europe & Asia by random terrorists. You live in a country where mass shootings are not uncommon.

None of us knew then, any more than we know now, whether our lives will be interrupted or ended by an act like these, or a motor, aircraft or some other accident.

If we change our lives because of these lunatics, or the random chance of an accident, we may as well give up.

The terrorists and our own fears will have won, without a hair on our head being harmed.

What has happened in Paris last night is tragic and terrible - as it is every time something like this happens.

Let's not make it worse for ourselves and for the people in Paris & elsewhere, by shrinking into ourselves and deserting them in their time of need. Let's rather stand strong & defy those who would intimidate us & circumscribe our lives!

We have been in Spain before, during, and after ETA attacks.

We went to Goldenberg's in Le Marais weeks before it was attacked.

We once drove into a riot in Miami.

There was horse rustling at the lodge we were staying at in Belize.

We have been stopped by the Guatemala military.

We have visited the UK before and after IRA bombings.

We were in Venice when Pope John Paul died (under suspicious circumstances.)

...and I worked three blocks from the Trade Center on 9/11, saw the second plane hit, our building was engulfed twice by debris, and inhaled human remains for the next three months.

I have resolved never to be intimidated. That does not mean to be stupid, but understand the circumstances and what can occur. If you are frightened don't go, you will not enjoy yourself. But too many people are sacred of too many things, and people should try to live their own lives, rather than the way others would you live yours.

Bokhara and Imdonehere... You are both probably right. It's just a hard pill to swallow. And it seems as if these attacks are becoming more and more frequent.

But I suppose it does no good to hide.

Yes, I'm here now (great memory flpab!). I'm such an old woman, I was in bed by 10pm; the sirens woke me at 2 am, but not knowing it was a terror attack, I tried to sleep through it.

The police & mayor have declared a state of emergency and have asked folks to stay inside. Don't really feel like defying those instructions -- I'm neither intimidated nor foolhardy. Just want to let the police & investigators do what they need to do in the hours & days after the attack. Also, seems kind of heartless to want to see sites and shop and dine well and carry on as normal right now --

I'm not even sure if busses & metro are running. The streets outside my window are unnaturally quiet & still.

My prayers of course are with the fallen and wounded and their families.

When the state of emergency is released or lessoned, I'll get on with my plans.
