Paris Triple for December
 

We will be in Paris mid December '06 (yes... that soon) and because of a variety of things - including my husbands ankle injury last week - our plans have chaged and I'm scrambling to put our plans in place in a week! I'm looking for a triple room - Have an adult single daughter.

We've stayed in the Minerve (5th) before and liked it, but want to be in a different location this time to do something new... thinking of the 6th or 7th or the Marais. We liked walking around the Marias when we were there last and we are looking to be in an area that is lively and has restaurants and sites near by.

I have some possibilities for the 6th and 7th but don't know the Marais well enough to know about hotels there or location.

Because of my husband's ankle we'll need a hotel with:
-- an elevator
--near bus or metro
--would like to walk out of hotel and be in active area
--a lobby or a place where he can take a break from walking - could be that he uses our room...
--would like to have breakfast included so we don't have to walk for that - but, not absolutely necessary
--around 200 Euros - of course, less is always nice

To date I've been looking at this list:
--Hotel Monge (7th) if anyone has stayed - what is near by?
--Hotel Henri, IV Rive Gauche - even though 5th a different area of 5th and have read good reports on this site
--Milesime Hotel (this includes breakfast) (6th) have read good reports on this site... is it very quiet near by or would we be near metro, and restaurants..
--Hotel D'Albion (8th) - their web site looks nice, but don't know location too well and haven't found any reports on this hotel.

Would love some feedback on these hotels and suggestions for the Marais or others you can suggest.

The Hotel de la Bourdonnais fits your criteria, except it's on a relatively quiet boulevard, across from the Champs de Mars, not in a busy area per se, more residential. There's a market next door to the hotel and a fruit market around the corner. The Rue Cler area is a block away. Metro stop on the corner, Batobus stop close by, too, at the Eiffel Tower. Even an ATM machine at the corner bank. Loved the location and the upscale neighborhood. An easy walk through the Champs de Mars to the Eiffel Tower or Les Invalides.

It's in the 7th, and you can get nice views of the Eiffel Tower from some rooms. Ours was a quad room, which was fairly large by European standards, and had two double beds. It was room 503, with two tiny balconies looking at the Tower. It has a lift, and offers a breakfast buffet for an additional cost, but we chose to visit Rue Cler in the mornings, for coffee, croissants, crepes and fresh fruit. It has a pleasant library-type room off the lobby, with internet access and seating.

We reserved it through Expedia for about $225, for four, in June 2005.

My husband, teenaged son and I stayed for 4 nights at Hotel Henri, IV Rive Gauche and loved it. One block from the Seine and another block or 2 over from Notre Dame. The triple was quite large with a seperate area for the 3rd bed and a privacy screen. Lots of closet space and modern bath. The hotel does have a lift. Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

Hotel de l'Université in the 6th has a double room with an extra little single room off of it that I shared years ago with my parents very comfortably. It's in a great neighborhood and the prices used to be quite reasonable. There's an elevator, a small lobby, and breakfast is served on the main floor.

and this is OK with your adult daughter to stay in the room with you and her Dad for two weeks?

we actually enjoy each other and haven't seen her for 4 months - so yes, it works out fine..

The Hotel du Lys in the 6th meets all of your requirements except an elevator, but one of the triples is on the same level as you enter the building (what we in US would call first floor). Breakfast is included, St. Michel metro 2 min. walk, great little place, IMO.

Two summers ago I stayed in a triple at the Opera Cadet and found it very pleasant. It seems to fill your requirements except for the location as it's in the 9th. It's located on a pedestrian market street with lots of cafes and an excellent brasserie Au General Lafayette. Also near is Chartiers, McD's and passage Jouffroy. It's 1/4 block from a metro which was convenient to the department stores and The Louvre.

There is an elevator, nice breakfast included and is within your budget.

Granted I've only stayed in one hotel in Paris, but it certainly served my needs. I did a quick check and it appears they have a vacancy.

I'm not sure that Hotel le Regent would work for your situation. Unless they've changed their elevator location, you board the elevator from a landing about 1/2 flight up from the main lobby; that would be difficult for your husband.

Last year, we stayed there with our son in a large double with an extra bed. I'm assuming that is what you would be doing, as I don't think they have rooms that are specifically listed as triples. The extra bed was a cot, and while it worked for 10-year-old son, I think an adult would be cramped. Also, the space in the room would be tight for 3 adults. That being said, the location is certainly lively, with many cafes right out the door of the hotel. And the hotel has a small lobby with couches and chairs, for a change of pace from your hotel room. It would be a bit of walk for a ankle-challeneged person from the Hotel le Regent to the Metro.

We'll be staying at the Milliseme for the first time next spring (le Regent's large rooms were already booked). As I recall from walking along that street, it's a little less lively than the le Regent area, but still within 2 blocks of lots o' restaurants, cafes, etc. Based on mappy.com, Millesime is just over 2 blocks from a Metro stop.

travel_fun, if you go to the Hotel Henri, IV Rive Gauche website and click on rooms, they show a bit of the triple.

Hotel Left Bank which is a Best Western, fits everything you say. It is in the 6th, right next to Le Precope and a great location for plenty that is very close (also close to Le Regent, but I'm not familiar with their triple rooms). The Left Bank triples have a sizeable built in sort of day bed (full twin) as well as two twins put together or separate. The rooms are charming and have very nice, large marble baths.

Travel fun: have you ever considered an apartment rental? We did just that when we met our adult daughter in Paris three years ago. You might be able to find last minute cancellations for less than a week's time at this time of year. I can recommend VRBO 9718 or any of the Paris Perfect flats (which are more costly). Good luck. Hotel de la Bretonnerie in the Marais fits your criteria and has a very nice triple. The single bed can be closed off for privacy. The bathroom is also laid out so that more than one person can use it without sacrificing privacy.

I appreciate hearing about Le Regent... from what I was told in email I was thinking just that.. that the bed would not be comfortable for our daughter.

We decided this visit to not stay in an apartment - we have in the past.

At this point - the Milliseme and Hotel Henri, IV Rive Gauche are looking like good possibilities - they both had availability when I last checked. Any thoughts on one or the other?

We will be staying at the Hotel Henri for part of our stay... we'll need someplace for the christmas period - they don't have their triple room.

I used to see a lot of postings about the Hotel Muguet - haven't seen anything lately.. any idea..

The Hotel Muguet is lovely. It was recently redone and they have a new website www.hotelparismuguet.com There are recent posts on tripadvior that you might want to read. It is close to many bus lines, restaurants, and the metro. The common area is nice and a computer in the lobby so you can check your emails. I'm not sure if it is free.

If Hotel Muguet is available for your dates, it is very nice and well located. We happen to really enjoy staying in the 7th.

We stayed in one of their triples (just the two of us). There will either be two twins or a queen in the room. There are two closets (generous for Paris). The room is not what I would call spacious, but not cramped either. The third bed is a trundle opposite the second closet in the corridor between the bedroom and the bathroom that is exactly wide enough for the trundle bed. Though three people can surely sleep and dress, I would find it terribly cramped and "crowded".

Is Hotel de la Bourdonnais not available? I ask because it is STEPS from Ecole Militaire metro station (which has an escalator at the exit) and half a dozen or more bus routes at Place de l'Ecole Militaire. Also within steps are plenty of restaurants, a grocery store, a wonderful take-away shop, a pharmacy, several ATM's, and several terrific cafes.

Both Henry IV and Muguet are quite a bit farther from anything. With an injured ankle, I would try to find a hotel as close as possible to everything, especially metro/bus stops.

Not true. Hotel Henri Rive Gauche is one block from the San Michele (sp?) stop and there's a taxi stand there also. You are one block from the Seine as well.

Henri IV and Henri IV Rive Gauche are two different hotels.

I have been asking a couple of questions via email and didn't get response and so I called the hotel today... (Henri IV Rive Gauche) to ask my questions.
The one question I can't seem to get answered - and you spoke to it in your reply to me - is the triple room that we will have the one that is on the web page... the picture looks very nice.
Do you know if they have several types of triples?

We booked two triple rooms for this summer. The hotel states they have one triple room per floor....four triple rooms total in the hotel. 3 are in the back on the courtyard and one on the front. Remember reading somewhere the front triple may be smaller than the back ones.

The one on the website was th one we had. It was an interior room and looked into a non descript interior courtyard. I am talking about Hotel Henri Rive Gauche on rue St. Jacques.
