Paris Trip Report - April 13-20th

Hi everyone -

We just got back late last night from our Paris vacation. I wrote a daily blog about the trip and some specific restaurants during our stay. I'd be happy to post the link if anyone is interested - not sure if that is allowed.

We stayed at the Hotel Delavigne in the 6th which is extremely centrally located. We were able to walk to most of the major sites or jump on the Odeon metro.

The highlight of the trip was the Segway tour. If anyone is considereding this - I highly recommend it!

I'd be happy to answer any questions, however, I am extremely sleep deprived so you'll have to forgive any spelling and/or grammar errors! :)

Yes, please, it is allowed, post your link :)

Ok - here's the link for my daily Paris blog. I'd be happy to answer any additional questions as this board was so great in helping me narrow down choices for our trip.

I'm only part way through this so can't comment on it other than to say - start at the bottom of the page and work your way up :-)

Tyr23 Apr 21st, 2005 05:18 PM

Yeah I don't know why it posts that way - I guess it puts the most current date first.

Day 1 is at the bottom and it goes 'upward' from there!

HeHe - I was part way through day 6 before i realised you hadn't said anything about arriving :-) but it wasn't until you mentioned it being your last day that i figured out i was reading in reverse.

Wonderful trip report - love the photos.

Beautiful report and pictures. Can't wait to finish it! Thank you for taking the time to post the link. We leave in 28 days!!!!

I'm jealous regarding your Segway tour! I had planned to book one in Nice only to find that they are no longer there. :(

wonderful report! Thanks for sharing. and your photos are just lovely. We go in a month and I was ambivalent about the Segway tour but now you have me reconsidering. Did you book this before you left Seattle?

and I thought I was some sort of freak for touring the local grocery stores wherever I travel - glad to see I am not alone :)

A fun report and great pictures. Thanks for letting us live with you for a few days!! The Segways sound like they were an experience not to be missed. We are planning on doing the fat bike tourin Paris (in 2 weeks time)but maybe we will reconsider. Thanks again!~o) You hang out in Starbucks as much as I do!

We also took the evening segway tour a couple of years back. Definitely the highlight! Agree that we had our picture taken tons - one guy ran up to my husband, handed him a frisbee (go figure) and had a buddy take a picture of the two of them. We've been looking for other segway tours in travels since.

Tyr23 Apr 22nd, 2005 07:36 PM

We booked the tour online at citysegwaytours.com/paris/. I had read that the tours fill up fast since there are only 8 slots open a day. I really would recommend this tour - it was lots of fun and a great way to see the city.

Bev, I just loved your blog! It was great to read a trip report with pictures. (I loved the picture of you and the American breakfast—you looked like a happy camper.)

You all certainly looked bundled up. Makes me think rationally about my trip next week (since it is in the 80s in LV).

We were only in Paris a day, passing through to Someplace Else, and the Segways were a great way for us to see a lot of the city in a relatively short amount of time. We booked a private guide for the two of us, never regretted the cost.

Tyr23, What a lovely report and stunning photos of Paris by night! Please tell me where exactly on the Seine are those trees lit up in different colours? Thanks.

LVSue: Mornings were pretty chilly, but on the days that it didn't rain, it would warm up to the high 50s/low 60s in the afternoons. I would suggest an umbrella and layers of clothes. Breakfast in America was a really fun place and it helped me get through the first day of jetlag!

tod: I believe those pictures were taken between the Louvre and Notre Dame along the Seine. Paris is lit up beautifully at night, especially with the bid for the 2012 olympics coming up. My husband saw so much walking around taking pictures around 11pm. He said that there were performers twirling fire batons in the courtyard of the Louvre, and a band playing along the Seine. Of course, I picked that night to go to bed early!

I stayed at the Delavigne in January and really liked it, but our twin room was larger than some one-bed doubles--we peeked into some very tiny rooms. How was yours?

Tyr23 Apr 23rd, 2005 08:13 PM

Elaine: We booked a twin room after reading your review of the room size, but were actually given a triple at check-in. Our friends had a double and it looked tiny! They could hardly walk around the bed. It was nice to have the extra space on the third bed for our luggage.

Wow, I love the set-up of your blog! And your photos are beautiful as well as interesting. I especially would like to use the Arc de Triomphe photo as desktop wallpaper. Only read thru day 2 - will read more later. I think you've sold me on the Segway tour.

And Breakfast in America is a place I'd like to try next trip. I love to try new foods while in Paris but occasionally it's nice to have something familiar, as you state so on your blog.

Welcome back and I'm so happy you 2 had a great trip!!
