Paris trip!
Hello! My husband and I are going to take the Eurostar between London and Paris April 8th - 13th. I haven't been there since I as 8, and my husband has never been. So, in effect, this is our first trip. We're staying at the Hotel Residence Monge (thanks for all of the postings about it everyone). Can we get to the hotel from where we'll be dropped off from the Eurostar via Metro? If so, how? We will be there on Easter - will there be a problem with restaurants and other places of interest being closed on Easter or the day after? Thanks in advance!

Since you'll probably have luggage, I wouldn't advise using the métro; a taxi would be much more convenient--no going up and down stairs or having to hang on to your luggage on the train.
Quite a restaurants will be open on Easter Sunday. That question was asked and answered recently; you can probably find the thread by entering Paris AND Easter in the search engine. The Louvre will evidently be open; for other museums, check the web sites to be certain. |
I put the rue Dunkerque -- close to Gare de Nord -- and the rue Monge 75005 into the search at the RATP site, and it looks like you can take the #7 metro from the Poissonniere Metro stop on rue Lafayette to the Censier-Daubenton stop right off the rue Monge. It looks like a very long walk, though. You might prefer to take a cab to your hotel. Just in case, the addresses I plugged in are not close enough, here's the website:

I stayed in an apt. near there last summer so know where it is and the transportation pretty well. The closest metro stop is actually Monge, not Censier. It's probably about half way between Cardinal Lemoine and Monge, a little closer to Monge (maybe a short two blocks). That is a little uphill at that point. There is no easy metro way from Gare du Nord because the Monge stop isn't on a line that goes there. I'd really just take a taxi, probably.
If you have little luggage, the most convenient might be the bus, not the metro. There is a very convenient bus line that runs along rue Monge and goes over the river, I used it all the time. That is the no. 47 bus line. It doesn't go to Gare du Nord but does have a stop in from of Gare de l'Est which isn't too far a walk from Gare du Nord. The bus stop going back is around the corner of rue du Fbg St Martin and the 8 Mai 1945 (the one in front of Gare de l'Est). That bus has a bus stop very near the hotel, at rue Monge and rue Lacepede. With luggage, the bus doesn't work very well if it is crowded. If you have a small roller suitcase, you could do that if the bus isn't crowded. |
Thanks everyone. I was searching under "Paris Easter" versus "Paris AND Easter" so I appreciate the tip.
