Paris - transport from de Gaulle airport
 

We are arriving in Paris by plane from Venice on 6 October 2005 and want to know what our options are for transport to our apartment in the Latin Quarter. We are a family of 4, with 4 large suitcases and 4 smaller bags. Any ideas and if so, what would be the likely cost of each option?

For 4 people the most economical or at least the same charge is a taxi. It will be in the neighborhood of 40-50E. Go to the cab line and let the taxi "master" get you a taxi for 4. Do not take any taxi from someone who approaches YOU, in the terminal or at the door. They will overcharge you. There is a small surcharge for the 4th person and for each piece of luggage but the total with tip should be about what I said. Go to maporama or a mapping site and print a map of your apartment's address to show to the driver.

You'd probably want to arrange for a shuttle. This is a popular one:

A shuttle will be about 17-19€ per person; a taxi will be closer to 50€.

Whether a cab or shuttle would be better depends on time of day.

If you are caught in traffic, the taximeter keeps running, the shuttle is a flat rate.

I researched this some, and we ended up deciding on cabs (we'll take 2 for all of us to fit) for our party of 6 when we go in September.

Shuttles range from $15-19 per person, so you're looking at about $60-$80 for that, and you might have to stop at other places.

A cab is $50-$60 per taxi, with a few extra bucks per extra person, but we ended up choosing it since we can just walk out and grab a couple, and it'll take us straight to our hotel. We're arriving on an early Sunday afternoon, so we're not anticipating heavy traffic.
This may not work for you as most taxis will only take 3 people, unless you find a van.

You can also rent a private car service for about $100.

I don't know if your kids can carry their stuff, but there is the easy RER into the city, but that requires a lot of schlepping of bags. BTDT, and it's not a lot of fun.

I'd say 50-55 euro. I don't think it very possible to get a taxi for four people plus luggage to the latin qtr for 40 euro, including tip. Even without tip.

hey, Christina, it might be 50E but it is still less than a shuttle. Take the TAXI.

You asked for options and costs.

The the most economical method would be the RER (and possibly Métro, which is included in the RER ticket).

If you are two adults and two children under 11, the total cost will be €26.80; if the children are over 10 but under 26, your total is 28.50 (in the latter case, the youngun's will also be able to travel free for the rest of Sunday).

The taxi fare [I'm guessing about 40&euro;] will be what shows on the meter, plus 2.60&euro; for the fourth passenger and .90&euro; per piece of luggage, plus tip, which is optional. If you call a cab at the end of your trip, the driver will start the meter when be begins to head in your direction.

I said that wrong. The children qualify for a <i>Carte Jeunes</i> if they're under 26. They don't have to be over 10. The cards provide unlimited transport only on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday.
