Paris too where??
I will be alone in a flat in Paris (female) from the first part of September, for about 3 weeks. Healthy, 65. Want to take a couple of trips ( a day or maybe even 3, while I'm there. Any awesome recommendations???? so excited!!! Btw. I love Paris, and have visited several times.

What types of things do you enjoy doing and have you done any day trips on your previous visits to Paris? There are tons of places to go within an hour.
Chartres
Compeigne
Chantilly/Senlis

There are lots of threads here on day trips from Paris and there's a book you should look at - An Hour From Paris by Annabel Simms.

Look at this thread, particularly at FrenchMystiqueTours' exhaustive and authoritative list of possible destinations: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...from-paris.cfm

A fascinating book that might give you some ideas for day trips is called Paris to the Past: Traveling Through French History By Train by Ina Caro. It is part guide book, part history lesson. She has organized destinations (25 in all) chronologically beginning in the 12th century at the Basilica of Saint Denis. She writes about these places as a historian & shares her experiences & impressions as a traveler which make this book very readable. It's an interesting approach!

Ooh. Thank you for your recommendations! I am quite excited. And no,I've never been in Paris quite long enough to take day trips. I just need to familiarize myself with what's out there, and hear of some personal ideas. An hour from Paris, sounds like a good idea!! As well as Paris to the past, sounds very interesting! Thank you!!! Cyndyq

for a day out of Paris, if you have never been..Giverny, where you can visit Claude Monet's house and gardens, and perhaps the nearby museum of American impressionists
Versailles, a short train ride from Paris.
for an overnight visit: Bayeaux, and then take the train to Caen, and visit the Peace Museum.
