Paris to rome
 

I'm confused as to how to get to rome from paris. I searched on trenitalia website for overnight trains leaving Nov 13 night, & I try to search point-to-point tickets. I specify a station in Paris (altho I'm not sure which one to pick). And for most of them the "buy" symbol is blocked off (it says "no")...i take that it means it's sold out? I'm finding it difficult to do an effective search on the site. Help!

I get something like this, but no option to purchase it:

Make sure you take ICE(fast train)

I think I was searching for the wrong station. If I choose Paris-Bercy to
Roma Termini then I can take overnight train.

Is the price of EUR 139,80 right? Seems a bit too high....isn't it?

ok..that 139 is the 'normal tariff" & not the youth price (which for one of the trains, i saw for 80 EUR). But I don't have that option on all the trains.

We took the nite train from Rome to Paris - I like taking one nite train per trip. Not super comfortable but I can sleep. You can probably purchase the tickets after your arrival in Italy - even in the heavier tourist months this has worked for us. I usually print out from the internet exactly what I want(dates/destination)
then show it at the ticket window. Have a great trip! SueC1

Are you married to the train idea? You can fly from Paris to Rome on Ryan Air (2 hours) for 60 Euro.

Less than ideal, since it involves ("Paris") Beauvais airport, but I think would choose Ryanair service into Rome (Ciampino), personally at less than 80 euro, taxes included (checking the specific date of November 13, for example)... note that Monday, November 14 is over double the price, whereas random dates in December can be purchased for as litte as 25 euro or less.

It's a morning deprture, which means being at the Porte Maillot bus stop at a very early hour... but you're in Rome by noon.

We also found that flying was often cheaper than taking long train trips.

omg...a flight on the 15th is 20 EUROS!! although the date doesn't suit me :(

thanks for suggestions. Is ryanair the only one? easyjet doesn't fly between the two.

The Paris-Roma overnight train doesn't have ordinary seats, only sleeping accommodation, so the cheapest fare is probably in a six-berth couchette compartment. If you're comparing the price with the air fare, add in the cost of getting to and from airports and the cost of an extra hotel night.

You may check fares in US dollars thru RailEurope if you live in the States - though they are generally a bit more than in europe sometimes they are not - especially on the Eurostar London-Paris where you could go for $90 round trip (one way same price) - i recommend BETS (800-441-2387) for Eurostar and Artesia (Rome-Paris night train info) - they work with RailEurope but are experts - i've dealt with them for years and they don't charge some of RE's fees.
If you go Paris-Rome and Rome-paris by train ask about the France-Italy railpass which would give you a passholder fare on the Artesia night trains and passholder fare on Eurostar ($75).
