Paris to Rome

I am going from Paris to Rome in September and I am trying to figure out the best way to get there. Ryanair has a flight from Paris Beauvais to Rome Ciampano(sp?). The times are pretty inconvenient though - one leaves at 9AM and other other at 10PM. My other alternative is to take Easy Jet which leaves from Paris Orly at 11AM to to Milan Linate. From there I guess we would take the train to Rome. Which option is better? How far is Paris Orly from the city center? I think Paris Beauvais is pretty far?

Well... if you're able to get that 19.99 euro fare for BVA-CIA (37.90 euro with taxes), for the 9:10 departure. Yes, it means you'll have to be at Porte Maillot at 6:10 am - - but then you will be in Rome before noon. You'll have almost two hours to sleep on the plane.

The alternative on Easyjet - - to sleep in later, but not that much later will cost you about three times as much, and you would be lucky to make it to Rome before 6 pm (say... leave your hotel at 8:30 to make that Orly flight, departing 11:00 am).

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi tammy,

It is a 4:30 hr train ride from Milan Centrale to Rome. Plus, you have to get from Linate to Milan.

Paris Orly is closer to Paris than Beauvais and reachable by the RER B line.

Have you considered the night train from Paris Bercy (19:09) to Rome (10:10)? A T3 cabin will be about 140E, 120E for a 6 person couchette.

I'm curious, ira... would YOU actually follow this advice? or are you just mentioning it as an alternative to put all the options out on the table?

There is no question that I would prefer the low cost flight. I know that my reasons are not entirely logical (I prefer a bed that doesn't disappear just because "we're there now" - - not sure how this is so much worse than a bed that disappear at 5:30 am, because you have to be at Porte Maillot at 6:10! but at least the bathroom seems better in a hotel).

Hi Rex,

>...are you just mentioning it as an alternative to put all the options out on the table?<

Yup.

It is not the cheapest, and might not be the most convenient method, but some folks do like trains.

Thanks for the replies. What is Porte Maillot?

Tammy - If RyanAir times are inconvenient your best option would be to fly EasyJet from Paris (Orly) to Naples.

Departure time is 12.35.
Fares start at approx. € 37.00 if you book now.

From Naples airport it's a short bus ride to the station - from where Rome is less than 2 hours by train.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

I've decided to take Easyjet to Naples and then the train from Naples to Rome. Thanks for all the help!
