Paris to Ramstein
 

I would like to travel from Paris to Ramstein via car or train in November, taking a few days to see small towns. Is this doable by train or should I drive?

I think you meant to tag this for France and Germany not Finland and Germany, but anyway, trains in France are not hop on and hop off meaning that you can't buy a ticket from point A to point E and get off at point, B, C and D along the route and then continue on to E. You need to buy tickets A to B, B to C, C to D and D to E. Renting a car in one country and dropping it off in another can be very expensive. Your trip is doable either way; it will probably be easier to drive but expect a 300 to 500 euro drop off fee if you pick up the car in France and drop it off in Germany.

We took the train, return trip from Kaiserslautern to Paris but if we go again in Nov/Dec would buy the ticket to Strasbourg and then another ticket to Paris. I love doing the train, super easy. Are you stationed there or doing a space a hop?

My daughter is student teaching there until December, I am traveling to see her the week before thanksgiving, complicates the trip because she has to go back and forth and is not allowed to travel alone. I am trying to decide whether to fly to Frankfurt or Paris.

I am also looking for advice on a 4 day trip over thanksgiving. She is able to travel quite a bit on weekends so I don't want to duplicate any of her short trips.

I would look at flights and see which is better for you. Trains are the best way to get around. There are great Christmas markets all over Germany and even around Ramstein. Is she able to take you on any of the MWR tours? They have some really good bus trips. She just has to go through the mall entrance to the Inn and the MWR office is on the second floor. They are a great group to travel with and good price. Have a good time and so great that she is getting to student teach there.
