Paris to Orly Airport Public Transport
 

On 26th December, we are planning to leave Paris in the evening and spend night at Orly airport. Our check in for flight is very early in morning on 27th. On 26th morning we will check out from hotel and keep luggage (4 cabin bags with wheels) in their store. Late in the evening, we wish take Tram No.7 from Bastille area to Ponte de Choisy and then bus no.183 to Orly airport. Cost 2+2 Euros x 4 persons = 16. This way we will save at least 50 euros on transport and min.250 euros on hotel. We had done this in the past but this time apprehensive about the weather. Will be weather too rough? How we will find bus stop for bus no.183 at Pointe de Choisy?

How does this plan save you 50€? It's a flat rate of 35€ from the Right Bank to Orly for up to four people and their luggage. So yo will save 19€. Even back in the days when there was no flat rate, I don't think that the taxi would have cost 66€. And if you want to take mass transit to Orly from Paris, why don't you take Metro Line 7 to the end of the line (Villejuif-Louis Aragon) and change there for Tram 7. Does Tram 7 even go to the Bastille area of Paris? I think it ends at Villejuif-Louis Aragon which is not close to Bastille.

What JAMH is saying is correct. A taxi for 4 people from Bastille to ORY is only 35€. If you really wanted take the métro/tramway from Bastille to ORY, you would take métro 5 from Bastille to Place d´Italie, change to métro 7 until Villejuif. At Villejuif you would board T7 to ORY.

For four people carrying luggage, métro to métro to tramway will be a lot of work when a taxi will take you directly to the airport in comfort.

By the way, no one knows what the weather will be like on December 26th. You should check the weather on the 24th or 25th. If you have done this trip in the past, don't you know where bus 183 stops at Porte de Choissy?

If you are in the Bastille area, it is possible that you might be close enough to the Sully-Morland stop to pick up Line 7 there. When I used to live on Blvd Henri IV, depending on where I was going, I would either walk to Bastille for Metro Lines 5, 8, and 1 or to Sully-Morland for Line 7

I would never do that when the taxi fare is only 35 euro. I think you are unaware they passed a law/regulation that sets fixed taxi fares now from the airport. there is however, also, a 7 euro fare for an advanced reservation. Still pretty cheap.

There is also a Taxi station near the tramway 3 and ligne 7.

If it's freezing cold and raining or snowing, I'd take a taxi.
You won't have to pay the advance 7 EU fee, just 35 EU.

I was unaware that there is now a flat rate for taxi fares to Orly.
So if I flag down a taxi in Paris to take us to Orly it is 35euro. Do I have to confirm this first with the driver?
Not sure where we are staying yet in Paris (left or right bank) does that matter?

Aussie_10, I have been told that it is best to note the fare so the driver you know the rate but I have not done that and have had no problems with being charged extra but that could be because I speak mediocre French. The flat rate to Orly is 35 euros from the Right Bank and 30 from the Left. For CDG, it's 50 to and from the Right Bank and 55 for the Left Bank. These fares are for up to 4 passengers and their luggage. If you call for a taxi for immediate dispatch, the dispatch fee is 4 euros and if you pre-order a taxi, the fee is 7 euros. There is no longer an approach fee.

In 2010 (9 dec) half an inch of snow fell on Paris. It was utter chaos.

There's a contradiction in the two sentences.

Question about this sentence: "If you flag a taxi on the street, he has to charge you the distance as recorded by the meter." Are you saying that the flat rate only applies if you call for a taxi? I ask because I took a taxi from Bastille taxi stand last week to CDG and the flat rate was applied. It's not clear to me why a taxi hailed on the street would be able to charge the meter rate and a taxi taken from a taxi stand or dispatched would charge the flat rate.

I have found nothing in the fare structures that states anything other than prices from either airport to or from Paris are fixed. It shouldn´t make any difference how the taxi is engaged; at a stand or <i>bourne</i>, by reserving or calling, or by flagging it down in the street.

The fares must either start or end in Paris, specifically one of the 20 arrondissements. La Défense, Montrouge, Neuilly or any other community surrounding Paris do not qualify for a fixed rate fare. Further, the fares are point to point only. Any intermediate stops conclude the fixed rate portion of the ride and the meter will be reset and restarted at normal rates.

How late in the evening are you going out to Orly? That could impact the taxi rate.

Does Orly allow overnight stays and will it be in an area where there is seating?

If you have the time, the trip on the T7 tram to Orly from the end of metro line 7 is quite interesting and scenic.

Sometimes it's not the amount you pay that is important.

Taking a tram and a bus with those pieces of luggage is not advisable, even outside of peak hours.

An option you might want to explore: Taxi to Montparnasse, Le Bus Direct (formerly Les Cars Air France where car, in French, means coach) nonstop to Orly, for 12 Euros per person.
