Paris to Normandy- week of Jan 1

We are looking to take a day trip to Bayeux and Normandy. The earliest train from Paris arrives in Bayeux at 930am, too late for the early am 1.2 day tours of Normandy. Does anyone know of a private tour company or person than would do a tour for 2?I wouldnt want ot be on the late 1/2 day tour of Normandy that concludes after 6pm...after the sun sets ....

In addition, are tours operatin as usual this time if year?
thanks

Why don't you consider an overnight stay in Bayeux?
You can visit the great Museum in Caen on the first day. Stay overnight in the area (Bayeux is ideal) and take an all day tour of the Beaches, etc. the second day.

hotels are paid for and not cancellable in paris.... i might consider that if there is not a way to do it in one day and spend the extra money for an additional hotel ....... but that is not the preference

There are one day tours from Paris via tours like ParisVision or such. Don't try to do it on your own.

We did a half day tour of Normandy with Overlord tours in mid October. I believe they said they end their season at the end of October, so you may want to verify that tours are operating.

That is an extremely long one day trip but this is not a great idea if you actually want to see much of anything due to the very limited hours of daylight, possible bad weather (normandy can be worse than Paris) and the amount of time you will spend sitting on a bus.

IMHO much better to get a hotel in Bayeux, see the museum and sights there, the invasion beaches and also the Museum in Caen - which cannot be done in one day.

I don't understand. Because the train doesn't arrive until 9:30 am, you're missing what you describe as a 1.2 day tour of Normandy, but if you can't stay overnight, how were you planning to do a 1.2-day tour anyway (and 1.2-day tour sounds strange to begin with)?

Anyway, google to find out if tours are operating this time of year. And unless you want to take the train, rent a car, and tour on your own, your only other option, really, is a looooong full-dat tour from Paris with ParisVision or some such company.

Just what part of Normandy do you want to visit? It's a very large region.

Assuming you are looking for a private guide to show you Bayeux and the D-Day sites in Normandy, then try looking at this thread which discusses D-Day tour guides:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...-Normandy.html

If you want a thoroughly detailed explanation of the logistics of a day trip from Paris to the D-Day area of Normandy (including train ticket info) look at this thread:

You should also look at the Bayeux tourist office website for more info about D-Day tour guides. You can call the tourist office for a faster and probably better response:
