NBBROWN: We looked into both and decided we wanted a more personalized, flexible guide than the battlebus tours. We corresponded with Nigel many times, fine-tuning our itinerary using his suggestions and our own interests. The cost was abour 400 E, for one day, he picked us up at our hotel in Caen about 8 AM, drove all over Normandy and dropped us off about 12 hours later. I know this is a lot of money, but since this was the main focus of our trip to France, we felt it was worth it. We went to other WWII sites before and after our time with Nigel, and combined with his tour we felt we came away with an excellent understanding of this time in history. We really wanted to be free to ask questions, stop and linger at certain places, time to contemplate the magnitude of the invasion. I did speak with someone who did the Battlebus and they enjoyed it, so I can't say anything negative about it at all. Just our personal preference and focus caused us to decide on a personal guide.
