Paris to Normandy - By Train or Car or Both?

We're traveling from Orly airport to Normandy and back to Charles DeGaulle airport, stopping off at Giverny (in either direction).

Are we better off:
* renting a car at Orly, driving both ways, and returning the car to DeGaulle or
*traveling by train to Bayeux/Caen, renting car there, and driving back to de Gaulle?

If we rent one way, how do we get from Orly to train to Caen/Bayeux?

A car is a real asset in Normandy if you are planning on staying several days and seeing the DDay beaches, Mont St.Michel, HOnflour, etc. We did this in Sept. and opted for the most convenient option which for us was renting a car in Paris. You might want to check train costs vs. car but you will have for the visit to
Giverny. Hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did.
