Paris to Italy - easiest entry point?
From Paris we are heading to Italy. At first I was planning on us flying out of Paris into Pisa and then heading to Florence. Not necessarily the easiest travel plan.
So is there a simpler way or another destination you think would be easiest to get to in Italy from Paris? What I mean for example is London to Paris is a short train ride of 2.5 hours - bypassing sitting at the airport, dealing with security, checking luggage -- all that would make a 2 hour flight turn into 5 hours of traveling! Paris to Firenze is scarcely long enough to justify flying. Do what most European do and hop on a train. Book well in advance and you could do this journey, city centre to city centre, first class for €80. Enjoy a relaxed lunch on the train, watch the Alps slide by. Departure from Paris just before 8am will get you into Firenze by 5pm, with one easy change of train along the way (at Milano - a 25 min change). There is also a superb night train as Palenque has mentioned.

Air France and Alitalia have non-stops into Firenze, 2 hours. Expensive, though. Lufthansa, Swiss, Alitalia and AirFrance all have non-stops to Milan, 1.5 hours.
Reminds me of flying London to Pisa on Alitalia a few years ago. Except ... We made an unscheduled stop in Milan, were all piled out of the plane and onto a coach and sent driving through the night from Milan to Pisa. Made a toilet stop somewhere, arrived Pisa after about 4 hours. Similar experience with Alitalia from Venice to Paris. Hours on a coach to Milan, then a flight to Paris. |
