Paris to Fussen
My family of 5 will be driving from Paris to Fussen, where we will tour the old castles. What is the quickest route to take and where would you recommend us spending the night to break it up into two days? Approximately how many hours will it take to do the drive?
|
It will take about 8 hours to drive in good traffic conditions - so it depends on when you are planning to travel. Maybe you could consider a night at Strasbourg to break the journey up?

Thanks for the tips. I looked at Strasbourg- what a beautiful place to stop and sightsee! We will plan to do that. Also, thanks for the viamichelin website. I have reviewed it and will use it to drive.

BTW: Neuschwanstein is not an OLD castle. It dates from 1892. It has nothing to do with traditional European castles which were usually the home of the ruler over the country and which could be defended against military agressors.

old castles - yup like neckervd says Neuschwanstein Castle is an Ersatz medieval castle - built in modern times to look like one but on the inside looking very modern and weird - one of the reasons why it is so so popular - a surprise at every turn.
I would think Strasbourg, though a great great city, would be a tad off the direct Paris to Fuessen (near Munich) route going thru southern Germany and the Heidelberg area - Heidelberg is one nice nice town to stay in en route. |
If you have a few days in Fussen, check out the Royal Krystal Therme Spa baths, just a couple of km's down the road at Schwangau. They're open all year round and are great fun for kids.

I stayed at a campground once at Schwangau - down on the lake and there were lots of kids around there swimmoing, mini golf, etc - may make a nice place for kids to stay.
