Paris to Dijon. Stops on the way?

My wife and I will be driving in August from Paris to Dijon and want to stop at some sites during the trip. Which of the following would be best for a few hours: Vezelay, Auxerre, Troyes? Thanks for your help.

If you are renting a car, I would suggest starting from Orly and getting on the A6. You will pass Auxerre and can detour through if you wish. Further along take exit 21 and head for Vezelay and spend some time there. Then it's through Avallon, rejoining the A6 at exit 22. Take exit 23 and head for the charming town of Semur-en-Auxois which is close by. Then back on the A6 to Dijon. Put this route on mappy for an estimate of distance and time.

I loved the places that RonZ mentioned.
However, I stayed longer than a few hours in Auxerre - 2 nights actually - as there's lots to see there. Vezelay is awesome, and would be a nice stop for a few hours. Semur-en-Auxois is a beautiful town. In fact, just driving anywhere in Burgundy is a real joy!

Vaux-le-Vicomte is worth a stop.

Vezelay -

An adorable little town and the basilica is incredibly beautiful. We arrived just as some sort of sung service was ending - and the music was exquisite.

Just be aware that it is a fairly steep hill with parking at the bottom. We shopped all the way up - and then ate on the way back down.

Vezelay - an extraordinary place - medieval pilgrimage town draped over a hill protruding from a lush Burgundy countryside - Vezelay was one of Christiandom's top pilgrim meccas in medieval days because its basilica housed what were portrayed to be the very bones of Mary Magdalene. Though by the 11th century Vezelay already attracted a steady stream of pilgrims, when in 1146 Saint Bernard preached here about the need for the Second Crusade in the presence of French King Louis VII, Vezelay's pilgrim stream became a torrent. Later, however, when the bones were exposed as fakes, one of many in medieval times used to draw pilgrims, the pilgrim flood dried up leaving Vezelay practically a ghost town - and this is what preserved its medieval buildings and basilica in tact - only in the 1800s did rehab begin. So Vezelay is one of the finest medieval towns in Europe and its stunning basilica, make no bones about it, is one of the finest eccleisiastical edifices in France. Well worth a few-hour stop - the views over the checkerboarded farmland and forests is marvelous. Auxerre and Troyes are also great but Vezelay is exceptional. that said, in August Vezelay attracts throngs of tourists so during that month is less captivating perhaps.
